Should women with urinary tract infection go to the gynecology department?

Should women with urinary tract infection go to the gynecology department?

Women with urinary tract infection need to see a gynecologist for examination, because urinary tract infection is a type of gynecological disease, mainly including cystitis, cervicitis and urethritis. These inflammations are caused by bacterial or viral infections, and patients need to pay attention to the protection of the urethra. After seeing a gynecologist, women will choose B-ultrasound for examination, which helps us to treat the effects of gynecological diseases in a timely manner.

Which department should women go to for urinary tract infection? What kind of examination should be done?

The clinical manifestations of urinary tract infection are quite wide. Urinary tract infection can be divided into pyelonephritis, cystitis, and urethritis according to the different sites of infection. The onset of the disease in female patients is often related to sexual activity. The main symptoms are bladder irritation symptoms, namely frequent urination, urgency, pain, discomfort in the bladder area or perineum, and a burning sensation in the urethra.

Women with urinary tract infections can go to the urology department or directly to the gynecology department, but doctors recommend going to the gynecology department because the female urinary system is connected to the reproductive system and may transmit reproductive system infections, so gynecological diseases cannot be ruled out. After you go to the hospital to register, you will need to do the following examinations:

1. Urinalysis: The urine of patients with acute urinary tract infection may be turbid and have a corrupt odor. Urine protein is trace ±~+. There is a slight increase in red blood cells in the urine sediment, ranging from 2 to 10 per high-power field of view. Only a small number of patients have obvious hematuria, less than 5% of patients have visible hematuria, and the white blood cell count often increases significantly.

2. Routine blood examination: In patients with acute pyelonephritis, the white blood cell count may be slightly or moderately increased, the neutrophil count may be increased and the nuclear left shift may be present. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate can be accelerated. Chronic pyelonephritis may cause mild anemia.

3. Microscopic examination of leukocytes in urine sediment: Pyuria refers to a significant increase in leukocytes in urine sediment. Pyuria is of significant significance in the diagnosis of urinary tract infection. Doctors usually base the diagnosis on clinical findings and testing for pyuria. If the number of white blood cells in normal human urine sediment is <3/high-power field of view, if it is >5/high-power field of view, it can be considered as pyuria, which is very valuable for diagnosing urinary tract infection.

How to treat urinary tract infection in women?

A three-day therapy is recommended for the treatment of urinary tract infections in women, which includes oral administration of trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole; ofloxacin; or levofloxacin. The recommended treatment for acute simple pyelonephritis is 14 days of antibiotic treatment. For patients with mild acute pyelonephritis, the course of treatment can be shortened to 7 days using highly effective antibiotics. In addition to antimicrobial treatment, complicated urinary tract infection also requires the treatment of anatomical and functional abnormalities of the urinary system and other underlying diseases.

In addition, patients should pay attention to the following in their daily lives: wash the lower body every day, keep the lower body clean and dry, change underwear every day, wash it carefully, expose it to the sun, disinfect it, sterilize it, pay attention to hygiene, and go to the hospital regularly to check your urine. Pay attention to hygiene. Try not to eat some gas-producing foods, such as potatoes, soy milk, and milk, and patients should not drink alcohol on daily basis.

Through the introduction above, I believe everyone has a certain understanding. It is recommended that patients and friends go to a regular hospital to confirm urinary tract infection to avoid misdiagnosis.
