Does high prolactin affect pregnancy?

Does high prolactin affect pregnancy?

Prolactin is a hormone secreted by the human body, which is closely related to endocrine disorders, mental stress, or bad living habits. High prolactin levels are usually more likely to occur in women after they become pregnant, but it does not rule out the possibility that non-pregnant women may also have high prolactin levels. Perhaps everyone knows that prolactin has a relatively large impact on women. So will high prolactin affect pregnancy? Let me introduce it below.

If prolactin is too high, it will greatly affect women's pregnancy.

Because increased prolactin will significantly inhibit the normal secretion of pituitary gonadotropins such as follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone, affecting the normal development of follicles, ovulation function and pregnancy function. The decrease in the secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone will directly lead to difficulties in the development of ovarian follicles, which will become weak or incomplete (B-ultrasound can observe weak follicles), and ultimately lead to inability to conceive; while the insufficient secretion of progesterone (luteinizing hormone) will cause luteal insufficiency, affecting the continued implantation and development of the fertilized follicles. For example, if a woman's body temperature is lower than 36.8 degrees Celsius, it will be difficult for her to get pregnant, and even if she does get pregnant, she may easily suffer from various miscarriages.

Treatment of high prolactin

High levels of prolactin have a relatively large impact on female pregnancy, so treatment cannot be ignored.

Before treatment, the causes of high prolactin should be analyzed first, and then treatment should be carried out according to different causes. If it is caused by medication, stop taking it. If it is caused by hypothyroidism, take thyroxine tablets for replacement therapy. If it is caused by pituitary tumor, treat the tumor with medication or surgery.

In addition, treatment can also be achieved by inhibiting the secretion of prolactin. If you want to inhibit the secretion of prolactin, you can choose "bromocriptine". This drug can inhibit the synthesis and secretion of prolactin, control the growth of pituitary microadenomas, and even shrink the tumors. However, this type of bromocriptine has side effects, such as nausea, headache, weakness in the limbs and constipation. Therefore, you must consult a doctor when using this medicine and use it properly.

If you are a woman who wants to have a baby, it is best to use bromocriptine for treatment first. If ovulation still cannot be restored, you can use ovulation-inducing drugs under the guidance of a doctor.

What should I pay attention to when prolactin is high?

In addition to treatment, women with high prolactin should also pay attention to their daily diet. If your prolactin level is high, you can eat more foods that can enhance your immunity, such as asparagus, pumpkin, dates, seahorse, crab, oyster, kelp, agar-agar, etc. Eating more whole grains, dried fruits and seeds can supplement nutrition, while fruits, vegetables, beans and fungi are also very good for women, especially bean products, including tofu, tofu pudding, etc.

There are some foods that people with high prolactin should avoid, including hot, greasy, spicy and irritating foods, because they will cause heat after eating, which is harmful rather than beneficial to the condition. In addition, it is best not to eat dog meat, mutton, crabs, etc.

There are many reasons for high prolactin. In addition to paying attention to medication and diet, if you want to have a healthy body, you should do more exercise, such as running and other beneficial exercises, to enhance your immunity and improve your overall physical fitness.
