How to sleep with a low placenta

Low placenta is a problem for many pregnant mothers. There is a risk of low placenta. If it is not adjusted in time, it will lead to premature birth and other situations. Therefore, after the problem of low placenta occurs, you must adjust your body as soon as possible. When sleeping, it is best to choose to sleep on your left side. Below, we will introduce you to the relevant knowledge about low placenta in detail!

1. Causes of low placenta

A low-lying placenta is caused by the fertilized egg's slow development before implantation. When it reaches the uterine cavity, it has not yet developed to the stage where it can implant, but continues to descend and is implanted in the lower part of the uterus, where it grows and develops. This means that the position of the placenta is lower than normal.

Endometrial lesions, such as multiple births, multiple curettages, cesarean sections and other factors can cause incomplete endometrial vascularization. When the fertilized egg is implanted, the blood supply is insufficient. In order to meet the needs of the fetus, it absorbs enough nutrients from the mother, thereby expanding the placental area. If the placental area is too large, the fetus may be born in the lower part of the uterus and form a low placenta.

Endometritis caused by incomplete endometrium, puerperal infection, multiple births, IUD insertion, multiple curettages, curettage and other surgeries, endometritis defects, insufficient blood supply, large compensatory placental area in order to obtain sufficient nutrition, and feeling of the lower uterine segment are all factors that can affect a low placenta.

2. The harm of low placenta

When the placenta is low, as the pregnancy progresses, especially in the late pregnancy or after delivery, the lower segment of the uterus gradually stretches, the cervical canal disappears, and the cervical opening dilates, but the placenta does not develop with the expansion of the cervical opening. As a result, it will detach from its attachment point, and blood vessels will rupture and vaginal bleeding will occur. When the amount of bleeding is large, the pregnant mother will develop anemia; when the bleeding is severe, shock and fainting may occur, and the baby in the belly may suffer from lack of oxygen, respiratory distress, or even death. Although this bleeding depends on the type of placenta previa, the chance of heavy, recurrent early bleeding is relatively low in low-lying placentas. However, during labor, each uterine contraction will pull the lower segment of the uterus upward, often causing increased bleeding and resulting in serious consequences.

3. Health care methods for low placenta

1. Take care of yourself and avoid strenuous exercise.

When a pregnant mother has a low-lying placenta, she should take appropriate self-care measures, but avoid all strenuous exercise, such as running, jumping, etc., and some actions are absolutely inappropriate. For example, squatting. Squatting will expand the cervix, and the placenta located lower will be stretched, causing detachment and bleeding.

2. Have an ultrasound every 4 weeks.

Pregnant women with low-lying placenta must have regular ultrasound examinations. Doctors recommend that you go to the hospital for a check-up every 4 weeks during pregnancy.

3. Closely monitor the condition.

If heavy bleeding, repeated bleeding, or labor is imminent, termination of pregnancy should be considered depending on the circumstances.
