Can premature baldness in women be passed on to sons?

Many girls have experienced baldness in life. Baldness can be divided into many types, some are alopecia areata, some are normal hair loss, and some are premature hair loss caused by menopause. The walking condition depends on whether there is a family problem. If there is no family problem, it is generally not hereditary, which is related to the body's hormones.

Pathological etiology

The cause of premature hair loss is unclear, but patients often have a clear family history. Genetic factors and high levels of androgens in the blood are two important factors. Sufficient androgens in the blood are often an important factor in the development of premature baldness. There is the following evidence:

① Premature baldness does not occur in men before puberty, but it may occur in those who take testosterone for a long time;

②Premature baldness worsens with age;

③ The beard, pubic hair and armpit hair of people with premature baldness do not fall off;

④ It was found that 5-a-dihydrotestosterone accumulated in the initially affected hair follicles, which may inhibit hair follicle metabolism, but the further cause is still unclear.

This disease is often accompanied by sebum secretion, but it has been confirmed that it has no causal relationship with premature baldness. In addition, local factors such as hats that are too tight, wearing hair pressure caps at night, and washing hair with too cold (or too hot) water are not major factors.

Disease diagnosis

Neurogenic hair loss - alopecia areata (commonly known as alopecia areata)

Early stage of alopecia areata Late stage of alopecia areata

Alopecia areata (alopecia areara) is also called circular hair loss, commonly known as ghost hair loss, and is also called oily wind in traditional Chinese medicine.

It is a type of neurotic alopecia, an organ-specific autoimmune disease with genetic predisposition and environmental excitation factors. It presents as localized non-scarring inflammatory patchy hair loss. Patients with alopecia areata often suffer from mental trauma before the onset of the disease.

In short, alopecia areata may be caused by a certain antigen system in HLA stimulating the autoimmune process, disrupting the normal hair follicle dynamics, causing the hair follicles to enter the resting phase prematurely and unable to produce normal hair. However, the hair follicles in the hair loss area still exist and are in a relatively dormant period. After the cause of the disease is eliminated, the hair follicles may grow normal hair again.

Scarring alopecia

Hair loss is caused by scarring of the scalp due to infection, scald, burns, trauma and electric shock, which damages the hair follicles.

Other types of hair loss

Infectious alopecia: bacterial infection can cause hair loss. Abscess-like folliculitis on the head, keloid-induced folliculitis and alopecia folliculitis can all lead to permanent scarring hair loss.
