The vagina is the female sexual organ. Once there is a flaw in the hygiene of sexual life, the reproductive organs, including the vagina, are prone to various diseases. Inside the vagina, in the vaginal cervix or the cervical vaginal part, fleshy lesions can often be seen. This fleshy ball is a polyp. So, what exactly is a vaginal polyp, what are the symptoms of vaginal polyps and how to treat it? Let us give a brief introduction below. What are vaginal polyps Vaginal cervical polyps are a manifestation of chronic cervicitis. Polyps originate from the cervical mucosa, so they are bright red in color, soft and fragile. They will bleed if touched lightly. There is another type of polyp that comes from the vaginal part of the cervix. The surface is covered with stratified squamous epithelium, is light red in color, has a tough texture, a wide base, and a superficial lesion. symptom Generally speaking, women with cervical polyps do not have any discomfort symptoms, sometimes with increased vaginal discharge, or blood in the vaginal discharge, or bleeding during intercourse. If the above conditions are found, the patient should go to the hospital for treatment. Many patients have cervical polyps discovered during screening or gynecological examinations for other diseases. There is a type of polyp whose root is attached to the cervical opening or cervical canal. It is formed by local hyperplasia of the cervical mucosa under the stimulation of inflammation, and protrudes out of the external opening of the cervix. The surface of the polyp is covered by a layer of columnar epithelium, which contains cervical glands. The stroma is rich in microvessels and loose connective tissue, accompanied by inflammatory cell infiltration. This type of polyp can be single or multiple, and is generally small in size, with a diameter of less than 1 cm. It looks like a tongue, is bright red in color, soft and brittle in texture, easy to bleed, and has a slender pedicle. Another type of cervical polyp occurs in the cervical vaginal part, with a surface covered by stratified squamous epithelium and a stroma containing fibrous connective tissue. This type of polyp is superficial, protrudes to the surface, has a wide base, is light red in color, and has a tough texture. How to Treat Cervical Polyps Once cervical polyps are discovered, they should be removed surgically. Cervical polypectomy is relatively simple. After disinfecting the vagina and cervix with iodine, use hemostatic forceps to clamp the base of the polyp pedicle and rotate it to remove it. The operation is painless. After the operation, the wound surface is applied with chlortetracycline powder and pressed with cotton balls to reduce inflammation and stop bleeding. If the polyp is large and has a thick pedicle, the broken ends can be electrocauterized to stop bleeding after removal. Regardless of the size of the removed polyps, pathological examination must be performed, because cervical polyps have a malignant transformation rate of 0.2% to 0.4%. Although this rate is very low, do not miss the diagnosis due to carelessness. In addition, although the polyps have been removed, the inflammation of the cervix has not been completely eliminated, so the polyps may recur and patients need regular check-ups. |
