White discharge during pregnancy

White discharge during pregnancy

Women during pregnancy pay special attention to taking care of themselves and do not want to get sick. Because once you get sick during pregnancy, it is very likely to affect the normal growth of the fetus, and in severe cases it may even cause miscarriage. In addition, taking medications during pregnancy is very likely to cause fetal malformations. In short, every expectant mother hopes that the entire pregnancy will go smoothly without any discomfort. So what does it mean if you have white discharge from your vagina during pregnancy?

White discharge from the private parts of pregnant women

During pregnancy, especially in the early stages of pregnancy, due to the rapid increase in hormones, the body's metabolism is vigorous, and the vaginal epithelial cells and cervical glands secrete vigorously, resulting in increased vaginal secretions. It manifests as vaginal discharge in the genitals. Vaginal discharge is usually milky white, odorless and non-irritating. It is one of the signs of reproductive system health and is by no means unclean. Expectant mothers don't need to panic or over-clean.

Pregnant woman has water flowing out of her private parts

Clinically, some expectant mothers experience a small amount of watery fluid flowing out of their vagina, some of which may be water breaking, and some may be the discharge of leucorrhea-like substance. Expectant mothers who experience the above symptoms should go to a doctor in person to confirm whether their water has broken, in order to prevent secondary infection once their water has broken and a small amount of watery substances often flow out.

Some expectant mothers thought it was leucorrhea, so they did not take it seriously and thought it was urinary incontinence in the late pregnancy. They continued to wait for delivery at home. When delivery was really about to come, the fetus had already suffered a very serious intrauterine infection and secondary infection. This makes the fetus prone to secondary sepsis, even meningitis and other very serious consequences.

Therefore, expectant mothers in the late pregnancy must pay attention to vaginal discharge, even a small amount of watery liquid outflow should not be ignored.

Once this symptom is discovered, it is recommended that the expectant mother must stay in bed and rest, and it is best not to walk around. If necessary, expectant mothers are advised to take medication and suspend sexual intercourse in the late stages of pregnancy. Expectant mothers should try not to eat raw or cold foods and eat more fresh vegetables and fruits.

What does the vagina secrete during pregnancy?

The secretion is mainly leucorrhea. To evaluate whether the leucorrhea is normal, it is necessary to observe the quantity, color, texture and smell. Normal leucorrhea should be milky white or colorless and transparent, with a slightly fishy smell or no smell.

Why is the secretion of pregnant women other colors?

Yellow, sticky vaginal discharge

If an expectant mother finds that her leucorrhea is yellow and sticky, it may be due to infection with Candida albicans. Candida albicans exists in the vagina. Under normal circumstances, Candida albicans and good bacteria will maintain a balance. Once the resistance is reduced or overworked, the number of Candida albicans will increase, leading to infection. Candida albicans infection will cause discomfort to pregnant women, but will not affect the fetus.

Gynecologists say that Candida albicans is a type of fungus and a common vaginal infection during pregnancy. When infected with Candida albicans, the secretions will be yellow and sticky, similar to cheese, and symptoms such as itching in the perineum and redness of the vagina will appear. Even if cured, the chance of recurrence is still high, especially during pregnancy when the body's resistance is low.

It is usually treated with vaginal suppositories or topical anti-itch ointments applied to the vulva. Doctors say that after being infected with Candida albicans, in addition to taking and applying medications on time, you must pay attention to your daily living habits, do not wear pants that are too tight, and choose cotton breathable materials to keep the genitals ventilated and dry to avoid increasing the number of Candida albicans. In addition, if the private hair is relatively thick, it is recommended to trim it slightly.

Grayish yellow, odorous vaginal discharge

If the expectant mother's leucorrhea is grayish yellow and has an odor, it may be caused by a bacterial infection. Gynecologists say that bacterial infections are usually caused by anaerobic bacteria, which exist in the vagina but can cause infection as long as the amount is large. When infected, the secretions are grayish yellow and have an odor, but they will not necessarily itch. In severe cases, the genitals will become red and swollen.

Gynecologists say that the treatment of bacterial infections is mainly with vaginal suppositories and oral medications. It is worth noting that bacteria may enter the uterine cavity along the cervix, causing inflammation of the amniotic cavity and infection of the fetus. The infection can easily induce uterine contractions and lead to premature birth. In early cases of premature birth, 50% were related to infection. Therefore, pregnant mothers should pay special attention to the possible threats of bacterial infections to the fetus. In addition, bacterial infection may also be caused by bacteria near the anus. Because the vagina and anus are located close to each other, it is easy for bacteria from the anus to be brought into the vagina.

There is brown blood in the leucorrhea

Gynecologists say that the brown blood that appears in early pregnancy is most likely "implantation bleeding," which is a slight amount of blood caused by rupture of uterine capillaries when the placenta is just implanted. Generally speaking, this situation may occur 4 to 6 weeks from the last menstruation. If there is a little blood at this time, it is a normal implantation phenomenon and there is no need to worry too much. It will return to normal after a day or two. However, if the amount of blood continues to increase, it may be a sign of miscarriage and you need to seek medical attention immediately.

Excessive blood streaking before 20 weeks of pregnancy may be a sign of premature birth, but it does not mean that the fetus will be lost. As long as you go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible and take good care of the fetus, the fetus can still be saved. If the discharge is bloody or even brown between 20 and 37 weeks, it means prenatal bleeding, which may be caused by cervical dilatation, placental abruption or placenta previa, and you should seek medical attention as soon as possible.
