Four-dimensional color Doppler ultrasound can rule out Down syndrome, three factors to understand early

During pregnancy checkups, four-dimensional color ultrasound and Down syndrome screening are two necessary items. Down syndrome screening is mainly to check for trisomy 21, that is, to check for congenital idiocy, and mainly to check the brain of the fetus, while four-dimensional color ultrasound is mainly to check for physical defects in the fetus.

1. Can 4D color Doppler ultrasound rule out Down syndrome?

Four-dimensional color ultrasound is an important means to rule out fetal appearance deformities, so as to achieve timely detection and correction. However, this does not mean that the four-dimensional color ultrasound examination can completely replace Down syndrome screening, because some children with Down syndrome do not have any signs of defects at birth, but will gradually show intellectual defects during the development process. These are difficult to detect through four-dimensional color ultrasound, but they can be discovered through Down syndrome screening. By testing the blood of pregnant women, the risk of the fetus suffering from Down syndrome can be determined and all remedial measures can be taken.

It can be seen from this that four-dimensional color ultrasound can only clearly show the development of the fetal surface, but cannot check the fetal intelligence. Therefore, pregnant women not only need to do four-dimensional color ultrasound examination, but it is also necessary to do Down syndrome screening. Don't give up on Down syndrome screening just because of the trouble, which will affect your baby's health.

2. Four-dimensional color Doppler ultrasound

Four-dimensional color ultrasound is four-dimensional imaging technology (4D), which can intuitively and stereoscopically display the three-dimensional structure of human organs and observe the three-dimensional structure dynamically and in real time, while previous two-dimensional imaging technology can only display a certain section of human organs. In obstetrics and gynecology, four-dimensional color ultrasound can perform ultrasound examinations on the fetus and can display the color, face, and development of various organs of the fetus in three dimensions. Even the status of the fetus in the mother's body can be observed; it can also make early diagnosis of fetal malformations such as cleft lip, cleft palate, skeletal abnormalities, and cardiovascular malformations.

3. Down syndrome screening

Down syndrome screening is a detection method that extracts serum from pregnant women, tests the concentrations of alpha-fetoprotein, chorionic gonadotropin and free estriol in the maternal serum, and calculates the risk of giving birth to a fetus with congenital defects based on the pregnant woman's due date, weight, age, weight and gestational age at the time of blood collection. Children with Down syndrome have severe intellectual disabilities, congenital idiocy, tongue-protruding dementia, and are unable to take care of themselves. Some children also have complex cardiovascular diseases and need long-term care from their families, which creates a huge mental and financial burden on the family. Moreover, Down syndrome is a sporadic disease, so every pregnant woman has the possibility of giving birth to a child with Down syndrome. The chance of having a baby with Down syndrome increases with the age of the pregnant woman. Therefore, it is necessary for pregnant women to undergo Down syndrome screening.
