What causes uterine septum and how to diagnose it

The appearance of uterine septum is generally caused by congenital reasons, and congenital maldevelopment leads to uterine deformity. The presence of a uterine septum may lead to miscarriage if conception occurs.

Cause

Uterine septum is a congenital uterine malformation that is formed during the development of the uterus. It can cause infertility, difficulty in pregnancy, or increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy, fetal growth retardation, spontaneous abortion, premature birth, malposition of the fetus, etc. The main cause of female uterine septum: congenital, formed in the mother's body. Uterine septum is congenital and exists in the mother's body. Patients with uterine septate are mostly asymptomatic clinically, and some patients may have increased menstruation; but most patients with uterine septate have a history of recurrent miscarriage, infertility, premature birth and abnormal fetal position, and some are discovered during cesarean section or curettage for artificial abortion; secondly, some patients are found to have vaginal septate during pelvic examination, and the doctor further examines and finds uterine septate.

Diagnostic Methods

1. Dynamic digital hysterosalpingography is one of the important examination methods for uterine septum;

2. Vaginal four-dimensional color Doppler ultrasound is more accurate in diagnosis before menstruation;

3. Hysteroscopy: Hysteroscopy can more directly and accurately determine the type of uterine septum. It is the "gold standard" for diagnosing uterine septum. It can distinguish between complete and incomplete uterine septum and diagnose lesions in the uterine cavity. Hysteroscopy should be performed routinely before hysterectomy.
