What causes breast swelling and pain?

Some women often suffer from breast pain. This breast pain does not occur often. It may appear at a certain period of time. After a period of time, it will be alleviated or disappear even without treatment. Female friends often worry about this kind of bloating and pain, fearing that they may have diseases such as breast cancer. So, what causes breast pain?

Premenstrual breast tenderness

Many women experience breast fullness, hardness, and tenderness before menstruation. In severe cases, the breasts will swell and hurt with the slightest vibration or collision. This is caused by increased estrogen levels in the body before menstruation, breast hyperplasia, and edema of breast tissue. The above changes may disappear after menstruation.

Breast tenderness during pregnancy

Some women experience breast tenderness and pain around day 40 of pregnancy due to the placenta and villi secreting large amounts of estrogen, progesterone and prolactin, which causes the breasts to enlarge. In severe cases, the pain may last throughout the pregnancy and does not require treatment.

Postpartum breast tenderness

Some women often experience swelling, hardening and pain in their breasts 3 to 7 days after giving birth. This is mainly due to breast lymph retention, venous congestion, interstitial edema and obstructed mammary ducts.

Breast pain after abortion

Some women will experience breast pain after an abortion. This is because the pregnancy is suddenly interrupted and the hormone levels in the body drop suddenly, causing the newly developed breasts to suddenly stop growing, resulting in breast lumps and breast pain.

Breast tenderness after sex

This is related to the physiological changes in the breasts during sexual intercourse. People with low libido or disharmonious sex life cannot achieve sexual satisfaction, so breast congestion and swelling are not easy to subside, or they subside incompletely. Continuous congestion will cause breast pain.

No matter what causes breast pain, it is best to go to the hospital for examination in time. After an early diagnosis, if it is caused by pathological reasons, treatment can be started one day earlier and health can be recovered as soon as possible. Don't be embarrassed to see a doctor just because you have a problem with your breasts. If you delay turning a minor illness into a major one, it will be more difficult to treat.
