What is the cause of vulvar swelling and pain in pregnant women?

Some pregnant women find that their vaginal discharge begins to increase after they become pregnant, and their vulva is often moist, and sometimes, they feel swollen and painful. I want to take medicine but I'm afraid it will be harmful to the fetus. But if I don't take the medicine, I will feel uncomfortable. This is actually caused by vaginitis in pregnant women. So, what causes vaginitis in pregnant women? What should we pay attention to in daily life?

Why are pregnant women prone to vaginal inflammation?

The vaginal mucosa of pregnant women becomes soft, the tissue becomes congested and edematous, the number of vaginal exfoliated cells increases, and the secretions increase. The glycogen and lactic acid content in the vaginal epithelial cells increase, which lowers the pH value of vaginal secretions and is conducive to the reproduction of fungi. In addition, pregnant women have low body resistance, which can easily lead to fungal vaginitis.

The vulvar skin of pregnant women becomes thicker, and the secretion of the sebaceous glands of the labia minora increases. In addition, the renal glucose threshold of pregnant women decreases during pregnancy, the urine sugar content increases, and the stimulation of diabetes can easily cause vulvitis.

How to care for vaginal inflammation during pregnancy?

1. Women who are used to sitting for long periods of time have poor ventilation in the perineum and obstructed blood circulation, making them more susceptible to infection. Therefore, pregnant women should not sit for long periods of time.

2. Some pregnant women are accustomed to using sanitary pads for a long time, which can also easily cause poor ventilation of the perineum and lead to infection. Therefore, it is recommended that pregnant women use panty liners for a short period of time.

3. During acute inflammation, you should rest in bed and reduce friction during activities.

4. Assist the doctor to take leucorrhea for secretion examination, identify the pathogenic bacteria, and carry out etiological treatment.

5. Keep the vulva clean and dry, and change underwear frequently (wear cotton underwear).

6. During the treatment period, the basins, bath towels, underwear, etc. used should be promptly washed with boiling water, boiled, or soaked in medicinal solution for disinfection to avoid cross or repeated infection.

When a pregnant woman develops vulvitis without any external force, she should seek medical treatment in time. Remember not to take medicine blindly to avoid causing fetal maldevelopment. Paying attention to the hygiene of the vulva and keeping it breathable and dry can effectively avoid the occurrence of vulvitis.
