Does cervical erosion affect fertility?

Cervical erosion is a very common female disease, and the chance of this disease is quite high. There are many ways to treat cervical erosion, which is now common among female patients, such as flushing, applying medicine, electrotherapy, and even taking medicine. However, more women are concerned about whether such a disease will have any impact on their fertility. Will it lead to the possibility of infertility?

Cervical erosion generally does not affect conception because the inflammation is relatively mild. However, in cases of moderate to severe cervical erosion, especially severe cases, the inflammatory changes are serious and the leucorrhea is often purulent and very viscous. Inflammatory leucorrhea can inhibit or kill sperm, and thick cervical mucus can prohibit sperm from passing through the cervical canal. Therefore, it will affect conception. When the inflammation spreads along the uterosacral ligament to the pelvic cavity and affects the fallopian tubes, it can also cause inflammatory adhesions of the fallopian tubes, affecting the fertilization process and causing infertility. Therefore, patients with more severe cervical erosion, even women who have not yet given birth, need timely treatment. This is not only related to the long-term and severe inflammatory stimulation that may cause cervical cancer, but also to whether the patient can successfully conceive.

1. Long-term inflammatory stimulation of the cervix will change its environment, thereby affecting the environment for sperm existence and reducing sperm motility.

2. Women with cervical erosion often experience increased and viscous cervical secretions, which make it difficult for sperm to pass through, affecting sperm motility and preventing sperm from entering the uterine cavity.

3. For women suffering from cervical erosion, the cervical secretions will contain a large number of white blood cells, which will devour sperm. Cervical bacteria and their toxins can also kill sperm. For example, Escherichia coli can cause a strong agglutination effect on sperm, which can make sperm lose their vitality.

If cervical erosion is not treated properly, it is often stubborn and can cause a variety of other gynecological diseases. Mild cervical erosion in women is not very serious, but patients with severe cervical erosion that persists for a long time have a higher incidence of cervical precancerous lesions and cervical cancer; the naked eye cannot distinguish whether it is erosion or precancerous lesions and early cancer. Therefore, it is not enough for patients to have only routine gynecological examinations. They should have TCT examinations at the same time as their gynecological examinations every year.

Therefore, female patients suffering from cervical erosion must handle this disease with caution and must seek timely treatment as soon as possible. If the condition worsens, it will easily lead to infertility. If this disease is serious to a certain extent, it will pose a great threat to women's reproductive ability. Therefore, female patients must receive formal and professional treatment as soon as possible to stay away from illness.
