Can I smoke during menstruation?

Smoking has become a very common thing now. Many people smoke in the streets and alleys. It is not surprising, especially many men. However, with the openness of social atmosphere, many women also smoke. In fact, smoking is more harmful to women than men, especially during menstruation. Can women smoke during menstruation? What are the hazards?

Smoking can cause menstrual disorders in women. The nicotine in tobacco can reduce the secretion of female sex hormones, thereby interfering with the physiological processes related to menstruation, delaying menarche, menstrual disorders, early onset of menopausal syndrome, amenorrhea or scanty menstruation. Severe cases may even affect conception. It is especially bad during menstruation.

Affects conception: Nicotine causes dysfunction of the ciliary movement of the fallopian tubes, affecting the normal operation of sperm and fertilized eggs. At the same time, smoking causes the body's immune function to be weakened, making the fallopian tubes or other pelvic organs susceptible to infection, all of which can lead to infertility or ectopic pregnancy.

Leading to dysmenorrhea, compared with non-smokers, women who smoke 10 to 30 cigarettes a day have twice the risk of dysmenorrhea. Women with a smoking history of 10 to 20 years have almost three times the risk of dysmenorrhea as non-smokers. Smoking can cause blood vessels to constrict, reduce blood flow to the endometrium, and cause dysmenorrhea cramps.

Leading to premature aging, the nicotine in cigarettes can stimulate the spasm and contraction of microvessels, resulting in insufficient blood and oxygen supply to the skin, affecting normal metabolism and accelerating aging. The skin of women who smoke tends to be drier, rougher, less elastic, more wrinkled, duller in color, and more haggard, which often makes them look much older than their actual age.

In addition to the above, smoking can cause many harms to women, especially pregnant women. If they smoke, it can easily lead to fetal malformations. Or if they smoke after giving birth, the nicotine and carbon monoxide in the blood will be passed to the child through the mother's breast milk, affecting the child's development and growth, which is very harmful.
