Can pregnant women eat leeks when they have a cough?

In life, leeks are a favorite of many people because of their unique fragrance that makes people addicted. However, the diet during pregnancy requires expectant mothers to pay attention to this and that. Although leeks have high nutritional value and are good for the fetus, other properties of leeks make it unsuitable for pregnant women to eat leeks, and eating leeks may even cause harm to pregnant women. Let’s take a look.

The main nutrients of leek are vitamin C, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, niacin, carotene, carbohydrates and minerals. Chives are also rich in cellulose. Chives also contain volatile propylene sulfide, which gives them a spicy taste and helps stimulate appetite.

Traditional medicine believes that leeks are warm in nature, and can warm the kidneys and assist yang, benefit the spleen and stomach, and promote qi and blood circulation. Eating more leeks can nourish the liver and strengthen the spleen and stomach. Leeks contain more dietary fiber, which can promote gastrointestinal motility and effectively prevent habitual constipation and colon cancer.

From the above nutritional analysis of leeks, it stands to reason that leeks can be eaten during pregnancy, because they contain a large amount of iron and various trace elements that are beneficial to the baby. But in fact, this is not the case. Most experts recommend that pregnant women should not eat leeks. There are four main reasons:

1. Chives can strengthen uterine contractions and cause uterine excitement in pregnant women, so pregnant women should not use too much.

2. Leeks contain a lot of crude fiber, which is not easy to digest and absorb, so you can't eat too much leek at one time, otherwise a large amount of crude fiber will irritate the intestinal wall and often cause diarrhea.

3. Chives are spicy and cold foods. Eating too much can cause diarrhea. It is not recommended for pregnant women to eat too much.

4. Chives can help to reduce milk secretion, which can directly inhibit the secretion of human milk and may lead to less milk after childbirth.

If expectant mothers really like to eat leeks, then I suggest that they stir-fry leeks with other vegetables. This will not only increase the nutrition, but also control the quantity, so that the impact on the baby will not be so great! During pregnancy, you need to pay special attention to your diet when you have a cough. You can eat more pears stewed with rock sugar and baked oranges, but don't eat sweets such as candy and biscuits.
