The itching is paroxysmal, especially at night, accompanied by burning, dryness and discomfort, which seriously affects sleep. It can last for months or even decades. Mild atrophy may be seen on the vulva. In severe cases, the clitoris, labia majora and minora may atrophy and become adherent, and the labia minora may partially or completely disappear. The labia minora may then tighten, and the vaginal opening may become narrow and lose its elasticity, even affecting urination and sexual life.
