What should I do if my period turns black?

Many middle-aged women will find that the color of their menstrual blood gradually darkens during menstruation, and some women's blood even turns completely black. It has caused considerable pressure on the patients' lives and psychology. Normal menstrual blood should be a natural and lustrous red color. Being too bright red or too dark red is abnormal and women need to find out the cause and treat it in time.

The main reasons for women's prolonged menstrual period are as follows:

(1) Pelvic inflammation, intrauterine polyps, endometritis, etc. are all caused by poor intrauterine blood circulation, degeneration and necrosis, or pelvic congestion, which lead to excessive menstruation and prolonged menstruation.

(2) Chronic uterine hypertrophy (myometritis) is caused by pelvic congestion and continuous increase in ovarian estrogen, which causes thickening of the uterine muscle layer, resulting in excessive menstruation and prolonged menstruation. Liu Jun, director of the Department of Gynecology at Yunnan Jiuzhou Hospital, pointed out that uterine fibroids, especially submucosal uterine fibroids, can cause excessive menstruation and prolonged menstruation due to the expansion of the uterine cavity area and abnormal contraction.

(3) Dysfunctional uterine bleeding, such as anovulatory dysfunctional uterine bleeding and irregular endometrial shedding, are both caused by endocrine dysfunction and lead to prolonged menstruation.

If it is accompanied by pain, be careful. Black menstrual blood is a sign of blood stasis from a TCM perspective.

If you are unmarried and only experience pain during these few days of each month, you can take Danggui tablets or Wu Ji Bai Feng Wan orally. Wu Ji Bai Feng Wan can be taken one or two days before your period.

If you are married, in addition to the pain during these few days each month, you also occasionally have lower abdominal distension and lumbar pain, then you should go to the hospital for a check-up and do a B-ultrasound or transvaginal ultrasound to see if there are other inflammations. Timely diagnosis and treatment are the best methods. Do not avoid it and do not buy medicine at the pharmacy yourself, as this will delay treatment and be counterproductive.

Women should seek timely treatment for their own conditions based on the principle of being responsible for their own bodies. The first thing is to maintain a regular schedule and a stable mentality to avoid excessive emotional fluctuations that affect the normal shedding of the endometrium. Women should also pay more attention to rest and avoid excessive fatigue, especially before and after menstruation to maintain adequate nutritional intake to promote the body's metabolic balance.
