What are the causes of redness, swelling and peeling of the genitals?

Women are always suffering from various gynecological diseases. Symptoms such as itching, pain, redness and swelling, and excessive vaginal discharge are now common discomfort symptoms, which not only make female patients painful, but also bring inconvenience to work, life and sexual life of couples. So what is the cause of redness, swelling and peeling in the vagina? Let's take a closer look at it so that everyone can understand the root cause and carry out relevant treatment accordingly.

Vaginal redness, swelling and peeling are mainly considered as possible vaginitis. In normal women of childbearing age, under the action of endocrine hormones, the vaginal epithelial cells proliferate. The surface cells are rich in glycogen, which is very conducive to the growth of facultative aerobic lactobacilli. This bacterium accounts for more than 90% of the vagina. The presence of a large number of this lactobacilli inhibits the growth of other pathogenic bacteria and forms a normal ecological balance in the vagina.

When the body's estrogen level drops, it causes vaginal epithelial atrophy and a decrease in cell glycogen, which is not conducive to the growth of lactobacilli. Excessive use of antibiotics or excessive flushing of the vagina with alkaline fluids inhibits the growth of lactobacilli. Promiscuous sex and frequent sexual intercourse (because the pH of semen is 7.2-7.8) lead to the proliferation of pathogenic anaerobic bacteria and Gardnerella, causing an imbalance in the ecological balance of vaginal microorganisms, a decrease in facultative aerobic lactobacilli, and ultimately leading to bacterial vaginosis.

The decarboxylase produced by anaerobic bacteria can stimulate Gardnerella to produce certain amino acids, resulting in volatile amines, which release an unpleasant fishy smell. Amines increase the pH value and inhibit the reproduction of lactobacilli. The vaginal epidermal cells that are attached to bacteria fall off, increasing vaginal secretions, thus leading to this disease. Due to the disorder of flora, vaginal inflammation is not obvious, and the white blood cells in the secretions are reduced. Therefore, bacterial vaginosis is more appropriately called vaginitis than vaginitis.

Common complications include gynecological cervicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and often Trichomonas vaginitis. It has been reported that 86% of women with positive Trichomonas culture have this disease. In addition, bacterial vaginosis during pregnancy can often cause adverse perinatal outcomes such as chorioamnionitis, amniotic fluid infection, premature rupture of membranes, premature birth, and endometrial infection after cesarean section or vaginal delivery.

The causes of vaginal redness, swelling and peeling have been introduced above. The seriousness of gynecological diseases can also be seen from the content. If discomfort in the vulva occurs, timely diagnosis and treatment is required. I hope that female patients will pay more attention to private hygiene issues. Both men and women should perform hygienic cleaning before sexual intercourse, avoid taking baths in a tub in daily life, and keep underwear exposed to the sun.
