Miscarriage is most likely in the last few months of pregnancy

Termination of pregnancy before 28 weeks of gestation and with a fetal weight of less than 1000g is called abortion. Abortion that occurs before 12 weeks of pregnancy is called early abortion, and abortion that occurs between 12 weeks and less than 28 weeks of pregnancy is called late abortion. Abortion is divided into spontaneous abortion and induced abortion. The incidence of spontaneous abortion accounts for about 15% of all pregnancies, and most of them are early abortions. Generally, miscarriage is most likely to occur in the first three months of pregnancy, mainly due to the following reasons

1. Genetic factors are the main factor leading to spontaneous abortion within 12 weeks of pregnancy, mainly due to abnormal chromosome structure or number leading to embryonic maldevelopment.

2. Imperfect embryonic development: Abnormal fertilized eggs are the main cause of early miscarriage. About 80% of miscarriages in the first two months of pregnancy are due to some defects in sperm and eggs, which causes the embryo to develop to a certain extent and then terminate. Therefore, the original embryonic tissue cannot be seen in the discharge of this type of miscarriage.

3. Trauma: The pregnant woman's abdomen is hit or squeezed by external force, or she falls or participates in heavy physical labor or strenuous sports; abdominal surgery such as appendicitis or ovarian cyst surgery can cause uterine contraction and miscarriage.

4. Uterine deformation: A normal uterus is a hollow bag made of muscle, shaped like an inverted pear. Some physiologically abnormal uteri may have abnormal shapes. If the deformation is not too serious, the baby may be delivered normally, but it will often result in miscarriage.

5. Endocrine dysfunction: The fertilized egg can only implant on the uterine wall and grow and develop into a fetus under the action of progesterone. When the body does not secrete enough progesterone, the uterine decidua will develop poorly, thus affecting the development of the fertilized egg and easily causing miscarriage. If the amount of prostaglandins increases, it will cause frequent contractions of the uterine muscles and may also lead to miscarriage. Reduced thyroid function can cause cell oxidation disorders, thereby affecting the growth and development of the embryo and causing miscarriage.

6. Emotions: A woman’s body undergoes great changes after pregnancy. Various pregnancy reactions often lead to a decrease in appetite. In addition, the increase in life responsibilities also brings psychological pressure to pregnant mothers. This is especially evident in terms of emotions, and many pregnant mothers often experience extreme mood swings. According to statistics, emotions are most unstable in the early stages of pregnancy. Because during this period, pregnant mothers undergo the greatest changes, including psychological and physiological changes, adjustments in lifestyle habits, and so on. The early pregnancy reactions during this period often cause physical discomfort, and it is not surprising that the pregnant mother's mood can drop from extreme excitement to extreme depression within a few seconds. Unstable emotions can cause disorders in the regulation of the cerebral cortex and subcutaneous centers; at the same time, the sympathetic nerves of the autonomic nervous system promote uterine contractions in pregnant women, and certain emotional stimuli can cause uterine contractions and lead to miscarriage.

In which few months of pregnancy is miscarriage most likely? Pregnant women are very prone to miscarriage in the early stages of pregnancy, so they must be especially careful and should not lift heavy objects or do strenuous exercise, and should minimize going out. Avoid overwork, get plenty of rest, get enough sleep, and control your sex life. Do not take a shower when you feel particularly tired, and go to bed to rest as soon as possible. In the early stages of pregnancy, you must correct the bad habit of picky eating, and eat more foods rich in folic acid, such as spinach, milk, animal liver, potatoes, fruits, tomatoes, etc.
