The cause of vulvar leukoplakia is still not very clear. The known factors include: vulvar infection and inflammatory stimulation, endocrine disorders, and genetic factors (the vulvar leukoplakia caused by genetics is mainly atrophic type, and the patients are mainly young girls) which can induce the disease. There are other diseases, such as diabetes, vitiligo, vulvar eczema, vulvar itching, etc., which may also lead to or aggravate the formation and development of vulvar leukoplakia if they abuse drugs or are improperly treated.

Vulvar leukoplakia is usually more common in menopausal women, and has a tendency to occur in younger people in recent years. As women age, local subcutaneous fat decreases, nutrient absorption is crossed, and nerves are easily exposed superficially, which stimulates itching of the skin. Although vulvar leukoplakia occurs more frequently in the north than in the south, the hot and humid climate in the south can cause persistent itching, which is conducive to the formation of vulvar leukoplakia.
