How is metastatic breast cancer treated?

Metastatic breast cancer is a relatively common disease and can cause great harm to women, so we must do relevant preventive work in our daily lives. We should also go to the hospital for regular check-ups to avoid worsening of the disease. If we are ill, we must actively treat the disease. So how should metastatic breast cancer be treated? Let’s take a closer look.

Most breast cancer patients need to undergo surgery to remove the breast tumor and axillary lymph node dissection, and then observe the tumor cell type and whether the axillary lymph nodes are invaded by cancer cells under a microscope.

Breast-conserving surgery: It is a surgery to remove the tumor in the breast but preserve the breast, including: 1) Lumpectomy: surgical removal of the tumor and a small area of surrounding normal breast tissue; 2) Partial or wedge mastectomy: surgical removal of part of the breast, including the tumor and part of the normal breast. Breast-conserving surgery is currently the most advanced surgical method.

Breast-conserving surgery can not only remove cancerous tumors, but also reduce the impact of surgery on the patient's body shape and appearance. However, not every patient can undergo this treatment. Patients who undergo breast-conserving surgery usually also need axillary lymph node dissection (to check for axillary lymph node metastasis) and postoperative radiotherapy. Axillary lymph node dissection can be performed at the same time as or after breast-conserving surgery, and the surgical incision is often separate.

The above briefly introduces the treatment methods of metastatic breast cancer. A more conservative treatment method can be used for treatment. The incidence of breast cancer is relatively high. Female friends must pay attention to disease prevention, develop good habits, avoid staying up late, overwork, etc.
