What are the methods for measuring ovulation?

For female friends, it is necessary to master the method of measuring ovulation, because this knowledge is helpful for both pregnancy and contraception. So how do you measure ovulation? What are the methods for measuring ovulation? Next, this article will introduce five methods of measuring ovulation for your reference only. If you want to know more about the methods of measuring ovulation, please continue reading! Please see the detailed introduction below.

1. Mathematical formula method

That is, the ovulation day is 14 to 15 days forward from the last day of the menstrual cycle (that is, the first day of the next menstruation). If the next menstrual period is on the Nth day, then the ovulation day this time is the N-14th day. Although the length of the menstrual cycle varies from person to person, and even the length of each cycle for the same person is not exactly the same, the luteal phase lasts for most people at 14 days, which is constant. Changes in the menstrual cycle are caused by differences in the follicular phase. So we can use mathematical formulas to simply predict the ovulation day.

2. Intermediate Pain Method

Some people experience pain in the lower abdomen between menstrual periods, just before ovulation, which is called intermediate pain or ovulation pain. Experts have investigated and found that 97% of the pain in the middle is felt before ovulation. Therefore, if there is pain in the middle, it can be assumed that ovulation will occur within 24 hours.

3. Basal body temperature method

The so-called basal body temperature refers to the body temperature when you wake up in the morning, your body remains quiet and your mood is calm. During the menstrual cycle, basal body temperature changes cyclically. The basal body temperature is lower after menstruation and during the follicular phase. After ovulation, the corpus luteum is formed in the ovary, and the progesterone produced acts on the hypothalamic temperature regulation center, causing the body temperature to rise by 0.3-0.5℃, which lasts until 1-2 days before menstruation or the first day of menstruation, when the body temperature returns to its original level. Since human body temperature can change due to a number of reasons, when measuring it, you must have a normal life routine, sleep for more than 6 hours a day, and the measurement time should be roughly the same every day.

4. Ovulation test paper

During each menstrual cycle of women, the luteinizing hormone (LH) in urine will reach a peak level 24-48 hours before ovulation. Using ovulation test strips can more accurately detect the peak level of LH. After starting the test, you should test regularly every day. When the color is about to reach the peak, you should test every 12 hours until the LH peak is detected. Since the number of days in each woman's menstrual cycle is different, you can refer to the cycle detection table when testing.

5. Ultrasonic examination

Currently, major hospitals in China use vaginal B-ultrasound to observe the size of the ovaries, measure the size of follicles, and estimate when ovulation occurs. The follicle is generally about 2-3 mm in size. It will gradually increase in size as ovulation approaches, reaching 18 mm 2 days before ovulation and increasing to over 20 mm on the day of ovulation. If the observation day happens to be the ovulation day, sometimes you can even see the rupture of the follicle on ultrasound.

It can be seen from this that using vaginal B-ultrasound to detect ovulation is the most direct and accurate method. First, you can use the menstrual cycle method to predict an approximate ovulation date, perform follicle measurement on a day close to the ovulation day, observe the size of the follicles, and seek guidance from a doctor.

The above is an introduction to the methods of measuring ovulation. I believe that after reading the above introduction, you will have a certain understanding of these five methods of measuring ovulation. In fact, the five methods of measuring ovulation introduced above are relatively common, and the test results are quite accurate! Therefore, female friends might as well learn more about this knowledge!
