How to eliminate milk lumps during lactation

For women, breasts are their secondary sexual characteristics and play a very important role in sexual life, especially after giving birth, when breasts can secrete a large amount of milk to provide the necessary nutrition for the child. However, there are also a large number of mammary glands under the breasts. Many women face the possibility of developing breast cancer and other diseases. Therefore, when a lump appears in the breast, it must not be taken lightly. So how should a lump in the breast be eliminated during lactation?

Causes of milk lumps

The lumps in the milk are caused by too much milk in the breasts, which causes breast swelling and pain. Especially from the third day after delivery, the symptoms will be more obvious. The main way to solve the problem of lumps in the milk is to discharge the milk in time. If the milk in the breast is not discharged in time, milk engorgement will occur, which is mainly manifested as chest pain and breast milk lumps. Breast engorgement not only brings pain to mothers, but also has a certain impact on breastfeeding.

The dangers of milk lumps

It will be very painful for a woman to squeeze milk after her milk becomes swollen and clots form, even more painful than giving birth. However, if the milk clots are not discharged in time, it will easily lead to mastitis, fever, etc. if it lasts for more than 6 hours.

What to do if there are milk lumps

Heat

Hot compress can make the milk lumps blocking the mammary glands unblocked and improve breast circulation. When applying hot compress, be careful to avoid the areola and nipple areas because the skin in these two areas is more tender. The temperature of the hot compress should not be too hot to avoid scalding the skin.

massage

After applying hot compress to the breasts, you can massage them. There are many ways to massage the breasts. Generally, you hold one breast with both hands and massage alternately from the bottom of the breast to the nipple, and then squeeze the milk into a container.

Using a breast pump

When your breasts are swollen and painful, you can use a manual or electric breast pump to assist in expressing milk, which is very effective.

Hot Bath

When your breasts are swollen and painful, you might as well take a hot shower and massage your breasts, which will feel more comfortable.

Soak breasts in warm water

If there are lumps in the milk, you can put a basin of warm water on your knees, then bend your upper body to your knees, let your breasts soak in the basin, and gently shake your breasts. Gravity will allow the milk to flow out more easily.

Cold compress

If the pain from breast engorgement is very severe, you can use cold compresses to relieve the pain. Always remember to express the milk before applying cold compress.

Diet

If your mammary glands are blocked, there are lumps, nodules, there is stinging pain when milk is flowing, there is distension and pain, or there are many lumps when your milk is engorged, you should pay attention to your diet in these situations, temporarily reduce the intake of high-oil and high-fat soups, and focus on replenishing Qi and blood.

For example, red dates, black fungus, and rock sugar water, boil the three together for twenty minutes and drink it as water. Luffa water: boil the luffa for twenty minutes and drink it three times a day. Or stir-fry fresh loofah.
