Is breast biopsy accurate?

Is breast biopsy accurate?

There is a relatively scientific and advanced examination method in the medical field now called breast puncture biopsy, which allows doctors to obtain the exact location, size, and other conditions of the patient's breast lump, as well as the possibility of a breast tumor. However, many patients and their families have many doubts about this because they do not understand this examination method. So, let’s learn about the accurate method of breast puncture biopsy.

Is a breast biopsy accurate? Breast biopsy usually refers to a puncture biopsy of a breast lump, which is often performed under the guidance of imaging medicine to improve the accuracy of the puncture. It is most often done under ultrasound guidance. Ultrasound images have high resolution, and the position and direction of the biopsy needle can be clearly seen. Biopsy performed under ultrasound guidance has high accuracy.

When is a biopsy performed? 1. A lump is found but its nature is unclear. A biopsy is performed to determine whether it is benign or malignant. 2. If breast cancer is highly suspected and neoadjuvant chemotherapy is being prepared, a biopsy is required to be sent for pathological examination to confirm that it is breast cancer. At the same time, biological markers of breast cancer are tested, namely estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, c-erbB-2 oncogene, Ki67, etc., to guide the selection of chemotherapy drugs.

Preparation for breast biopsy: The patient needs to check bleeding and coagulation time, and understand whether there is a history of anesthetic allergy, coagulation dysfunction, etc.

Biopsy process: The mass is centered, disinfected, and covered with a drape. Local anesthesia with lidocaine is usually used and the patient is awake. The biopsy needle is usually 14 or 12 gauge. The biopsy needle is inserted from the skin mound. The patient can see or feel the doctor's operation on the breast area, but there is no obvious pain. Usually 5-8 needles are needed for puncture and extraction. When the needle is removed, pressure is applied to stop bleeding. The puncture site is disinfected again, the needle is removed, and gauze is applied. Pressure is continued for about 20 minutes. Most breast cancers are multi-vascular lesions that are prone to local bleeding and have poor hemostasis ability when the skin is involved. Malignant tumors are usually hard and brittle, and it is easy to obtain satisfactory strip-like lesion tissue during puncture. However, most benign lesions can only be punctured into incomplete strips or dots of tissue during puncture biopsy, which is easy to stop bleeding.

Have all the doubts in your mind been completely eliminated now? Is a breast biopsy accurate? Its test results are very accurate. It uses the most advanced technology to allow doctors to have an objective and true understanding of the patient's condition, which helps doctors implement the next treatment plan based on the patient's actual condition, so patients and their families can rest assured.
