Reasons for sleeplessness during pregnancy

Reasons for sleeplessness during pregnancy

As the fetus grows, the mother's body also undergoes great changes. When she is 4 or 5 months pregnant, the baby's fetal movements will become frequent, and she will be able to feel the baby's movements clearly when she lies in bed at night. Due to pregnancy, women usually feel physical fatigue and various discomforts, so pregnant mothers will not be able to sleep at night. Let's take a look at why pregnant women can't sleep at night.

1 Pregnancy reaction: After 6 weeks of pregnancy, pregnant women will experience loss of appetite, picky eating, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, etc., which are called early pregnancy reactions. By the 13th to 14th week, pregnant women's sleep will be significantly reduced. During the last 12 weeks of pregnancy, as the fetus grows larger and the uterus expands, the woman may experience difficulty falling asleep, increased number of awakenings at night, and a significant decrease in sleep.

2 Headache: A small number of pregnant women will experience increasingly severe headaches and insomnia, sometimes accompanied by vomiting and blurred vision; at the same time, there will be lower limb edema, high blood pressure, and protein in the urine. This is pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome.

3 Chest pain: Chest pain in pregnant women often occurs between the ribs, and the pain location is not fixed. This is due to calcium deficiency caused by pregnancy, or due to the diaphragm being pulled up, causing the chest cavity to expand.

4. Stomachache: Pregnant women experience a bloated and uncomfortable feeling in the stomach due to the slowing down of digestive tract muscle motility; some pregnant women are at a loss due to constant acid reflux and heartburn, which leads to insomnia.

5. Low back pain: As the pregnancy progresses, pregnant women will feel heavy. When standing or walking, in order to ensure the balance of the center of gravity moving forward, they must stick out their chest and belly, and their feet should be spread outward. This will inevitably cause a moderate lordosis of the lumbar spine, causing spinal low back pain and poor sleep at night.

6 Abdominal pain: Some pregnant women, especially those with retroverted uterus, feel a pulling pain or a feeling of falling in the pelvic area in the early stages of pregnancy. If the lower abdominal pain is severe during pregnancy, the growing uterus will enter the pelvis, which will also cause hip pain, resulting in more awakenings at night and less sleep.

7. Hormone changes: Pregnant women are more sensitive mentally and psychologically, their tolerance to stress is reduced, and they often suffer from depression and insomnia, which is caused by changes in hormone levels in the body. The hormones that affect the human body during pregnancy are mainly estrogen and progesterone, which can cause emotional instability in pregnant women, excessive stress, premature birth of the fetus, or defects in vision, hearing, and intelligence. Therefore, moderate stress adjustment and family consideration and care are very important for stabilizing the mood of pregnant women.

8 Frequent urination: Pregnant women often experience frequent urination. In the early stages of pregnancy, half of pregnant women may experience frequent urination, but in the later stages of pregnancy, nearly 80% of pregnant women are troubled by frequent urination and have to get up at night to go to the bathroom, which seriously affects their sleep quality. Frequent urination is mostly caused by the enlarged uterus pressing on the bladder, making pregnant women always feel the urge to urinate. In addition, there are psychological factors or diseases of certain organs, such as emotional stress or bladder and urethritis.

I believe that after reading this, everyone will know how hard pregnancy is. The pain and various discomforts caused by physical changes when carrying a baby will affect the quality of sleep of the pregnant mother when she relaxes at night, resulting in the phenomenon of insomnia during pregnancy. Therefore, men who have pregnant women at home should love their wives doubly, because behind the birth of a new life is the selfless dedication of a mother.
