Causes of breast tenderness during menstruation

Breast pain during menstruation is normal and women don’t need to worry too much. With the arrival of menstruation, many female friends may experience abdominal pain, vomiting, breast tenderness, etc., but female friends should not worry too much. They should pay more attention to rest, eat some light food and some blood-enriching food, which will help you alleviate the complications of menstruation.

Under normal circumstances, the alveoli, ducts and fibrous tissue of the breasts of every woman entering puberty undergo a process of tissue change of proliferation and restoration during each menstrual cycle. Due to this change, every woman may experience slight or severe swelling and pain in one or both breasts before each menstruation. The swelling and pain will disappear naturally after the menstruation. This does not interfere with life, study and work at all and is a normal physiological phenomenon. However, when the body is under the influence of certain stress factors (such as excessive work pressure, excessive emotions, being unmarried at advanced age, not breastfeeding after childbirth, and suffering from certain chronic diseases, etc.), it is possible that the breast hyperplasia tissue that should have recovered will not recover or will recover incompletely. Over time, breast hyperplasia will form, which is manifested by three major symptoms and signs: thickened breast lobes and nodular granules, breast tenderness and nipple discharge.

Before menstruation, you may feel breast tenderness and sometimes even feel a painful lump. This is because the breast glands, like the endometrium, will undergo changes during the menstrual cycle, with a premenstrual proliferation phase and a postmenstrual recovery phase. The premenstrual proliferative period is 7-10 days before menstruation. At this time, due to the increase in androgen and progesterone concentrations, hyperfunction of antidiuretic hormone, and increased aldosterone secretion, the mammary ducts dilate, the epithelial cells proliferate and hypertrophy, and the matrix around the mammary ducts edema, causing compression symptoms and pain.

At the same time, the immature fibers of the breast increase, lymphocytes infiltrate, and the breasts enlarge, and you will feel distension, pain and discomfort. The menstrual recovery period refers to the period after the onset of menstruation, when the secretion of estrogen, progesterone and antidiuretic hormone in the body decreases, the milk ducts become smaller, the epithelial cells atrophy, the immature breast fibers decrease, and the symptoms of breast tenderness disappear.

I hope that female friends will have a certain understanding of breast pain during menstruation after reading this article. Faced with this common situation during menstruation, we hope that female friends can take the correct approach to treat it, because menstruation is accompanied by many related symptoms, and the key lies in the mentality and physical constitution of female friends.
