Causes of heavy menstrual flow in girls

Menstruation is a process that every woman goes through. For a girl, menstruation means the beginning of puberty, and the disappearance of menstruation means the onset of menopause. Menstruation is a very effective way for the body to detoxify. It is precisely because of the process of menstruation that women in the world generally live longer than men. However, even so, sometimes abnormal menstruation can cause harm to the human body.

Everyone knows that menstruation is the result of the shedding of the endometrium, and the uterus is one of the most important organs of women. Many young girls will experience heavy menstrual flow, so in this case, it is necessary for people to understand the reasons for heavy menstrual flow.

Heavy menstrual flow is a symptom of irregular menstruation. It is recommended that women go to the hospital for a check-up. The normal menstrual blood volume for women is generally 50-80ml, with the heaviest bleeding on the 2nd-3rd day of menstruation. If the daily blood loss is more than 80ml, or the menstrual volume is significantly increased compared to the past, the cycle is normal and is called heavy menstruation.

Heavy menstrual flow and prolonged menstrual period are called menorrhagia in medical terms. Medically, menorrhagia is defined as the menstrual period lasting more than 7 days and with a heavy flow, such as more than two packs of sanitary napkins (10 pieces) each time. Disruptions in the hormones that control the menstrual cycle often lead to menorrhagia. Conditions such as uterine fibroids, pelvic infection, or the rare condition endometriosis can cause heavy periods.

Excessive menstrual flow is more common among adolescent girls. The main reason is that during puberty, the ovarian function is not yet fully mature, and part of the menstruation at this time is anovulatory. Without ovulation, there is no corpus luteum, and without a corpus luteum, there is a lack of progesterone. Therefore, the endometrium can only be in the proliferative phase and cannot reach the complete secretory phase, resulting in incomplete shedding of the endometrium, which affects the contraction of the uterus and causes excessive menstrual bleeding.

Heavy menstrual flow is a very common problem among women. Many women think that heavy menstrual flow is a trivial matter, but in fact it is not that simple. Whether the leap is normal directly affects future fertility issues, so we cannot be careless at all. When people encounter such situations, they should seek medical treatment in time so that they can have a healthy body and a good life.
