The correct way to stop nosebleeds, 90% of people may do it wrong

Recently, the weather in Guangzhou seems to have returned to autumn and is as dry as before. Many children are not used to this kind of weather and the chance of nosebleeds is also increasing. Why is the nose so sensitive?

1. Dry nasal mucosa

Dry air will cause the moisture in the nasal mucosa to evaporate, making the mucosa brittle and cracked, and the capillaries more likely to rupture and bleed.

2. Increased vascular fragility

In a dry environment, the ability of blood vessels in the nasal cavity to contract decreases, and slight friction (such as blowing the nose or rubbing the nose) may cause bleeding.

3. Scabs fall off

If the dried nasal crust is forcibly picked off, it may damage the mucosa and cause bleeding.

When a nosebleed occurs, many parents will panic. How to correctly open the correct way to stop nosebleeds?

1. Stay calm and sit up straight

Do not lie down or tilt your head back: to avoid blood backflow that could choke the trachea or irritate the stomach.

Lean forward slightly: let the blood flow out of the nostrils. Do not plug the nostrils with tissues to avoid blood clots remaining in the nasal cavity.

2. Compression to stop bleeding

Pinch the nose: Pinch the nose (the soft part of the nose, near the top of the nostril) between your thumb and index finger and keep pressing for 10 to 15 minutes.

Do not release your fingers midway, otherwise it may affect blood coagulation.

3. Use cold compress if necessary

Ice pack or cold towel: Apply to the bridge of the nose or forehead to help blood vessels contract and stop bleeding. Wrap the ice pack with a dry towel before applying cold compress, and do not apply ice directly to the skin.

To stop bleeding, apply pressure first. If the bleeding still cannot be stopped after pressure, or if the amount of bleeding is large, use ice compress as an auxiliary treatment.

In addition, it is also important to avoid blowing your nose, picking your nose, and doing strenuous exercise within 24 hours to prevent stimulation of further bleeding.
