Rainy and snowy days are coming, orthopedic experts will give you "anti-slip tips", please pay attention!

Pingjiang has recently experienced a significant drop in temperature, with many places forecast to experience rain or even snow. The road is slippery on rainy and snowy days, so it is particularly important to prevent slipping and falling when traveling. Pingjiang County First People's Hospital reminds: The elderly are especially at high risk of osteoporosis, and are prone to fractures after falling. It is advisable to adopt a correct walking posture to effectively prevent falls.

The measures are as follows:

1. Slow down: Try to slow down when walking and avoid being impatient. Walking slowly with small steps can increase your body's sense of balance and reduce the risk of slipping.

2. Keep your body's center of gravity low: When walking, lean forward slightly and put your center of gravity on the soles of your feet, so that you can better maintain your balance. Avoid leaning back or leaning back too much, otherwise you will easily lose your balance.

3. Choose a suitable walking route: Try to walk on a road that has been cleared of snow or water. If you must walk on a snowy or icy road, avoid places with ice ridges or snow piles.

4. Wear non-slip shoes: Choose non-slip shoes with deep patterns on the soles. Such shoes have greater friction and can effectively reduce the risk of slipping. Avoid wearing shoes with smooth soles, such as plastic soles or hard soles.

5. Wear warm clothes: In rainy and snowy weather, the temperature is low, so you should wear enough warm clothes to avoid getting cold. At the same time, be careful not to wear clothes that are too thick or too long, so as not to affect your walking flexibility.

When a fall is unavoidable, responding appropriately can help you reduce the risk of injury.

●Try to avoid supporting yourself directly on the ground with your hands, as this may result in fractures of the wrist, arm, or shoulder.

●The correct approach is to slide down or roll your body to disperse the impact force by increasing the contact area.

●The head is one of the most vulnerable parts of the body when falling. At the moment of falling, try to protect your head with your arms to avoid hitting the ground directly. If possible, try to land on your shoulders or hips instead of your head.

● Do not try to resist or force yourself to stand up when you fall, which may cause greater impact force and more serious injuries. Instead, relax your body and go with the flow to reduce the possibility of injury.

What to do after a fall?

Stay calm: The first thing to do after falling is to stay calm to avoid secondary injuries caused by panic.

Assess the injury: Check the injured area for bleeding, swelling, deformity, or limited movement. If a fracture or dislocation is suspected, do not move the injured area.

Stop bleeding and bandage: For bleeding wounds, press the wound with clean gauze or cloth to stop the bleeding, and bandage it with a bandage if necessary.

Cold compress and compression: Applying cold compress to the injured area (15-20 minutes at a time, 2-3 hours apart) can help reduce swelling and pain, but avoid direct contact with the skin to prevent frostbite.

Fix the injured part: For fractures or joint dislocations, use splints or hard objects to fix them to prevent the fracture ends from shifting.

If the injury is serious (such as fracture, joint dislocation, deep wound or continuous bleeding), you should call 120 or go to the hospital immediately.
