On August 12 this year, researchers from the European Institute of Biology of Aging published a new study in the journal GeroScience, aiming to analyze the relationship between different types of exercise and life expectancy. The research team used a robust linear regression model to analyze data from 95,210 former athletes from 183 countries and 44 sports and found that different sports had significant differences in the impact on life expectancy. Among male athletes, pole vaulting and gymnastics were associated with the greatest increase in life expectancy, at 8.4 and 8.2 years respectively, while volleyball and sumo wrestling were associated with a shorter life expectancy, at 5.4 and 9.8 years respectively. Tennis and badminton had a more pronounced effect on extending life expectancy in both male and female athletes. Of course, this study also has some limitations: ① The observations came from athletes in Europe and North America rather than ordinary people; ② The sample size of female athletes was small; ③ It did not take into account differences in life expectancy caused by factors such as race, education, and socioeconomic status. Just have fun with it. You should know that the turtle and the tortoise have shown with the most real data that life lies not in movement but in stillness.
