Progesterone and estradiol after ovulation

Progesterone and estradiol after ovulation

Estradiol is a type of estrogen secreted by the body. It is not static, and its values are different at different stages of the body's development. So what does it mean when the progesterone level is high after ovulation? There are many reasons why estradiol levels can be high. Let’s learn about it together below.

1. Standard value of estradiol:

The value of estradiol is not fixed and will not change. It undergoes certain changes, and its value is different at different stages. Under normal circumstances, the standard value of women's estradiol is generally 48-521 pmol/L in the early ovulation period, but it is 70-1835 pmol/L during the ovulation period, and then it will be 272-793 pmol/L in the middle and late ovulation period.

2. Efficacy of estradiol:

1. As a type of estrogen, estradiol can cause the endometrium to become soft and menstrual volume to become less regular if its value is too low. It can also affect uterine development and thus affect pregnancy. Estradiol is an essential uterine and ovarian hormone that stimulates the glandular ducts in the cervix to secrete a specific mucus ("mucus with fertility properties"), which is crucial for male sperm to pass through the cervix and reach the egg.

2. Estradiol also stimulates the growth of the uterine wall. For the uterine wall that has been stimulated to grow by estradiol before, the progesterone value makes it ready for the embryo to implant. When there is no pregnancy, the production of estradiol and progesterone levels begins to decrease about 7 days after ovulation, causing the endometrium to fall off 11 to 16 days after ovulation, which is menstrual bleeding.

3. Causes of high estradiol:

High estradiol means that the estradiol content is higher than the standard value due to ovarian disease, heart disease, lupus, etc. Causes of high estradiol levels include:

1. Uterine and ovarian diseases: ovarian granulosa cell tumor, ovarian embryonal tumor, ovarian lipoid cell tumor, estrogen conversion tumor, etc., all show that the ovaries are more excited and the secretion of estradiol is increased.

2. Heart disease: myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, coronary artery stenosis.

3. Others: Targeted lupus erythematosus, liver cirrhosis, and male obesity.

4. What should I do if estradiol is too high?

High estradiol can easily affect ovulation and menstruation, leading to infertility. It is best to use hormone drugs for treatment under the guidance of a doctor. If estradiol is high, you can consider using some androgens, which can antagonize estrogen. The most common one is testosterone propionate. You can also consider weak androgens, such as danazol. It is best to take the medicine under the guidance of a doctor.

In addition, people with high estradiol levels should avoid eating foods high in estrogen, and can eat more low-calorie, high-cellulose foods. Because this kind of diet can reduce the level of estrogen in the body.

It should be noted that female friends should never take medicine casually. Because if the estradiol level is high during menstruation, it may be an accidental condition and requires medication after a doctor's diagnosis. Follow-up visits should be carried out regularly. If problems are still found during the follow-up visits, a scraping can be performed for pathological examination.

Warm reminder: If abnormal estradiol levels are found for a long time, you need to go to the hospital for examination immediately. There are generally two methods of inspection: blood sample collection and regular inspection and urine sample collection and inspection. You need to fast for 12 hours before the blood test, and be careful not to drink too much water or engage in overly strenuous exercise before the urine sample is collected for testing.
