July 24th of each year is International Self-Care Day. The World Health Organization defines self-care as: Actions by individuals, families, and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and cope with illness and disability, with or without the support of a health care provider. Recognize individuals as active actors in the management of their own care, including health promotion, disease prevention and control, self-treatment, provision of care for dependents, and rehabilitation including palliative care. The Healthy China Action Plan (2019-2030) clearly states that we should "advocate the concept that everyone is the first person responsible for their own health". With the development of society and the changes in the spectrum of diseases, self-health management by individuals and families plays an increasingly important role in promoting health. At the end of May this year, the National Health Commission released a new version of the "66 Articles on Health Literacy", which added content related to personal health rights and responsibilities, knowledge related to the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, knowledge related to the prevention and control of chronic diseases and healthy lifestyles, as well as health skills in safety and first aid, home medicine cabinet storage, and self-testing of blood pressure. In addition, the relevant knowledge points were updated based on the latest research results. In terms of lifestyle, the content related to healthy oral cavity and healthy bones was strengthened. The “66 Health Literacy Items” added oral health and household medicines. “Protect oral health, brush teeth in the morning and evening, and rinse mouth after meals” became a separate item, with strengthened content, and a new special item “Scientifically manage common household medicines and be able to read drug labels and instructions” was added. Tobacco control is also one of the key points emphasized in the "66 Articles on Health Literacy". Faced with the difficult-to-quit nicotine addiction problem, smokers can seek professional smoking cessation methods, including smoking cessation clinics, smoking cessation hotlines, nicotine replacement therapy, etc. July 24th means maintaining your health 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. "International Self-Care Day" advocates the combination of traditional Chinese health culture and the world's advanced self-health management concepts. It is consistent with the concept of "preventive treatment" in traditional Chinese medicine, and encourages people to take simple actions to achieve health, and prevent or delay a variety of diseases. Health is the pillar of life. Please pay attention to life and care about your own health! |
