Can I breastfeed after taking Isatis root?

Many mothers suffer from some diseases during breastfeeding. When some symptoms appear, mothers cannot choose other medicines, they can only choose them purposefully. Can I breastfeed after taking Isatis Root Granules? Can I breastfeed after taking Isatis Root Granules? Let's have a simple understanding of this issue. I hope the following points will be helpful to everyone!

Mothers who are breastfeeding can breastfeed after taking Isatis Root Granules, because Isatis Root Granules has no side effects and is a traditional Chinese medicine prescription. Mothers no longer have to worry about causing harm to their babies. Below I will introduce some knowledge about safe use of medicines.

L1: The safest

Many breastfeeding mothers do not observe increased side effects on their babies after taking medication. Comparative studies in breastfeeding women have not confirmed any risk to the baby, or the risk to the breastfeeding baby may be minimal, or the drug is not suitable for oral administration in babies. L1-level drugs include:

(1) Acetaminophen has a half-life of 2 hours and enters breast milk in only a small amount, which is unlikely to cause harm to the baby.

(2) Adrenal hormones have a half-life of 1 hour. Although they may appear in breast milk, they are quickly destroyed by the digestive tract. It is hardly digested by babies, except in the early neonatal period or when brief irritation is to be observed.

(3) Amoxicillin capsules: The half-life of the drug is 1.7 hours, and less than 0.95% of the amount used by pregnant women enters breast milk.

(4) Amoxicillin capsules contain cefaclor, the half-life of the drug is 1.7 hours. Currently, there is no report that cefaclor enters breast milk.

(5) Others: ampicillin, ampicillin-sulbactam, etc.

L2: relatively safe

There was no evidence of increased side effects in the limited number of studies on breastfeeding mothers taking the medicine, and there was very little evidence that breastfeeding mothers were at risk of taking the medicine. L2-level drugs include:

(1) Acyclovir, with a half-life of 2.4 hours, is safe for partial treatment of damage other than the nipple. However, if there is a wound on or around the nipple, stop breastfeeding while using this medicine.

(2) Amikacin: The half-life of the drug is 2.3 hours, and only a small amount enters breast milk.

(3) Aztreonam, the drug half-life is 1.7h. Due to its low oral digestibility (less than 1%), it is not expected to cause adverse effects in exclusively breastfed infants.

(4) Others: Roxithromycin, etc.

In general, it can be known that breastfeeding is possible after taking Isatis Root Granules. There are basically no side effects. Since Isatis Root Granules is a traditional Chinese medicine prescription, mothers must be cautious when choosing other medicines.
