A woman got up at night without turning on the light and hit her eye. After blowing her nose and applying hot compress, her eye swelled into a "goldfish eye"

After the woman got up at night and hit her eye, she did the taboo actions of blowing her nose and applying hot compresses, which caused her eye to swell up like a goldfish. On January 4, the patient went to the hospital for a check-up and was found to have a fracture of the inner wall of the eye socket and gas accumulated in the eye socket. Whether surgery is needed will have to wait until the swelling of the eye subsides before deciding.

Ms. He (pseudonym), 36 years old, went to the toilet three nights ago. Because she didn't turn on the light, she accidentally bumped into the armrest of the sofa and had a slight nosebleed. Because she didn't feel any discomfort, she didn't pay much attention to it and just blew her nose after the nosebleed. The next morning, Ms. He found that her right eye was red and swollen, so she applied a hot towel to the eye socket. Unexpectedly, the next morning, Ms. He's right eye was swollen like a goldfish eye, and it was very difficult to open her eye.

On January 4, Ms. He came to the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University for treatment. After examination, Lu Xiulan, deputy chief physician of the eyelid and orbital disease/eye plastic surgery department of the hospital, found that Ms. He had swollen eyelids, bulging orbital area, subcutaneous congestion, difficulty opening eyes, and inability to turn her eyeballs upward. An orbital CT scan showed that the inner wall of her right orbit was fractured and there was gas accumulation in the orbit.

After understanding what happened, Director Lu Xiulan said that after Ms. He hit her eye, the inner wall of the orbit was fractured. She then blew her nose, causing the gas in the sinus cavity to escape into the orbit, causing swelling of the eye. She then applied hot compresses for a short period of time, which led to subcutaneous bleeding.

Regarding Ms. He's situation, Director Lu Xiulan said that pressure bandage is needed to promote the absorption of orbital gas. Generally, it is necessary to wait for 10-14 days after the injury to wait for the swelling of the eye to disappear, and to see if the eyeball is sunken and the eyeball movement is restricted before deciding whether surgery is needed for the orbital wall fracture.

Director Lu Xiulan reminds: When the eyes are hit by external impact, be sure to avoid such taboo actions as blowing your nose and applying hot compresses. If the eyes are injured, it is recommended to go to the hospital for examination in time to see if the eyeball is damaged or the eye socket is fractured. At the same time, try to avoid the above actions that may aggravate the condition.
