74 students in one place collectively vomited and were rushed to the hospital! Beijing is also experiencing a high incidence of

According to the WeChat public account of "Anqiu Release" on November 13, on November 11, 74 students of Hongyi Middle School in Anqiu City, Shandong Province, developed symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea . The school immediately organized them to be sent to the hospital for treatment. Among them, 14 were hospitalized for observation and treatment. As of now, 10 students have been hospitalized for observation and treatment, 4 students have been discharged from the hospital, and the remaining students who have returned to school are now asymptomatic. The sampling and testing by the Anqiu City Center for Disease Control and Prevention showed that they were infected with the Norovirus .

Previously, Beijing CDC issued a reminder that the peak season for norovirus infection in Beijing is from October to March of the following year , and schools and childcare institutions are places where norovirus infection is most likely to occur. After being infected with norovirus, **no antibiotics are needed, and symptomatic or supportive treatment is the main treatment.

What is Norovirus?

Norovirus belongs to the Caliciviridae family and is one of the common pathogens that cause acute gastroenteritis. Norovirus has the characteristics of low infection dose, long detoxification time, and strong resistance to the external environment. It is easy to cause gastroenteritis outbreaks in relatively closed environments such as schools and childcare institutions. Norovirus is an RNA virus that is very easy to mutate. New mutants appear every few years, causing global or regional outbreaks.

How Norovirus Spreads

Norovirus is mainly excreted through the feces and vomit of patients, and latently infected people can also excrete the virus. Therefore, patients infected with norovirus and latently infected people are both sources of infection of norovirus.

Infection can occur through contact: contact with a patient's vomit or excrement; or indirect contact with objects contaminated by vomit or excrement, etc.

Infection can be caused by eating: eating food contaminated with norovirus.

Drinking water can cause infection: drinking water contaminated with norovirus.

It is particularly important to note that:

★ Bivalve shellfish such as oysters can accumulate norovirus in seawater and are high-risk foods.

★ Most outbreaks caused by foodborne transmission are caused by food contaminated by cooks infected with the Norovirus.

How to care for children infected with norovirus?

① Eat a light diet. The vomiting symptoms caused by the Norovirus are more serious. Some parents may think that "the more you eat, the more you vomit; if you don't eat, the less you vomit." They think that if their children don't eat, they won't vomit and will feel more comfortable. In fact, in the case of vomiting and diarrhea, the biggest threat is dehydration and malnutrition. You must first ensure the normal water and energy metabolism of the child's body in order to fight the virus. It is recommended to stop eating high-fat and difficult-to-digest foods during diarrhea. You can feed white porridge and rice soup. Infants can drink milk as usual.

② "Rehydration" is the best way. In addition to drinking more water, you can also take oral rehydration salts. However, if the vomiting is severe, or there are signs of dehydration, such as thirst, irritability, crying, and dry lips and tongue, you need to go to the hospital for treatment.

③Children should have a good rest at home. Keep the indoor temperature appropriate, the air fresh, and open windows regularly for ventilation. Change diapers frequently for babies and keep their buttocks clean and dry.

④ Actively treat the sick children and isolate them appropriately. Children who have already fallen ill should be isolated and treated at home, and classes should be suspended to avoid spreading the disease to classmates. The vomit and diarrhea of sick children and suspected sick children and contaminated items and places should be disinfected.

October to March of the following year

Norovirus infection is high in Beijing

According to Beijing CDC, norovirus is highly contagious and can spread quickly . People of all ages are generally susceptible, and the duration of immune protection after infection is short. Norovirus is the main pathogen that causes acute gastroenteritis . Norovirus can be infected all year round. In Beijing, the peak season for norovirus infection is from October to March of the following year. Schools and childcare institutions and other places where people gather are the most prone to norovirus infection.

Children who are infected mainly vomit

Diarrhea is the most common disease in adults

The incubation period of norovirus infection is 12-72 hours, usually 24-48 hours. Common symptoms include nausea, vomiting, fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Some patients have headaches, chills and muscle aches. Children mainly suffer from vomiting, while adults mainly suffer from diarrhea, with loose or watery stools. Cases and latent carriers are the sources of norovirus infection. There are various routes of transmission, mainly through ingestion of food or water contaminated with feces or vomitus, contact with feces or vomitus of patients, inhalation of aerosols produced by vomiting, and indirect contact with objects and environments contaminated with feces or vomitus.

How to prevent Norovirus

In schools and at home, the following points should be noted for the prevention of norovirus: do not drink raw water, drink boiled water or choose hygienic and qualified bottled water; wash fruits and vegetables before eating raw; bivalve shellfish such as oysters are rich in norovirus in seawater, and must be heated at high temperature and cooked before eating. Wash your hands with soap and running water before meals, after defecation, and before processing food. Disinfectant wipes and hand-free disinfectants cannot replace hand washing. If there is a patient with norovirus acute gastroenteritis at home, the patient should be provided with separate tableware and daily necessities, and isolation should be done as much as possible. The patient should not have close contact with family members, especially pay attention not to make food while sick, and do not take care of the elderly and infants. Chlorine-containing preparations need to be used to disinfect the environment and places contaminated by norovirus. Disinfectants with alcohol as the main ingredient are not effective in disinfecting norovirus. Food utensils can be disinfected by boiling for 30 minutes. At present, there is no specific medicine or vaccine for the treatment of norovirus acute gastroenteritis. Antibiotics are not required after infection, and symptomatic or supportive treatment is the main treatment.

Patients need to drink water in time to prevent dehydration. Oral rehydration salts can be used for rehydration. If vomiting or diarrhea symptoms are severe, they should go to the hospital immediately. Source: Beijing Daily WeChat Official Account
