The difference between milk stasis and milk blockage

Milk blockage and milk stasis are both symptoms of breast obstruction during breastfeeding. The two are different. Because they often occur, it is necessary to understand the difference between the two so that they can be better dealt with. So, what is the difference between milk stasis and milk blockage?

In terms of definition:

Milk stasis: Milk stasis is a disease caused by the poor discharge of milk from one lobe of the gland during lactation, which leads to the accumulation of milk in the breast. The specific clinical manifestation is a lump in the breast, which is often misdiagnosed as a breast tumor.

Milk blockage: The mammary glands are not functioning properly, and the milk is blocked deep down, causing deep lumps. The main manifestation is a sudden large lump in the breast. The swelling and pain are not severe at first, and some mothers do not have a fever.

For treatment:

Milk stasis: Use heat when the breasts are full but not red, swollen, hot, or painful, or when you want to increase milk secretion. Use ice when the accumulation is severe and there is a sign of pus.

Breast milk blockage: Although hot compress can promote blood circulation, it will aggravate the edema. Heat is not recommended.

Inhalation therapy:

Milk stasis: Breastfeeding the baby immediately after conditioning and massage (it is best to let the baby suck more, the baby is the best manual breast pump) or using a breast pump to express milk can help relieve the blockage.

Blocked milk: If the mammary ducts are blocked, it is not suitable to use a manual breast pump. Sucking with all your strength can easily damage the mammary glands; excessive and frequent breastfeeding will make the baby lose interest and leave after just a few bites. This way, the milk is stimulated but not immediately drawn out, which can easily expand the accumulation area.

In Chinese medicine

Milk stasis: Traditional Chinese medicine believes that milk stasis after childbirth is the direct cause of mastitis, and puts forward the treatment method of technical milk discharge. It clears the milk channels, eliminates milk stasis and milk pore blockage, promotes the discharge of semen, and prevents bacteria from growing in the environment. At the same time, it improves local blood circulation, thereby relieving inflammation and pain, and exerts a two-way therapeutic effect.

Milk blockage: Traditional Chinese medicine for lactation is based on regulating the mother's meridians and acupoints, improving the mother's physical fitness, adjusting the mother's mood, combining professional milk transport techniques, and removing deposits. We believe in the charm and value of traditional Chinese medicine. Can reasonably assist mothers.
