19-year-old twin brothers from Wuchang District recently underwent myopia surgery together at the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University. It is reported that both brothers have been myopic for about 10 years. The brothers hugged each other to celebrate, and finally got rid of their glasses as they wished.

Director Wang Qifeng introduced that common myopia surgeries are divided into laser and ICL lens implantation. The all-femtosecond laser surgery chosen by the brothers is a type of laser myopia surgery. The principle of laser myopia surgery is actually to make a pair of "concave lenses" on the cornea and use laser to cut the cornea, so there are certain requirements for corneal thickness. Lens implantation myopia surgery is to implant an ICL lens to have high-definition vision, which can break through the limitation of corneal thickness. Because it can correct a higher degree of myopia, it has become the preferred option for those with high myopia and super high myopia.

Zhang Qingsong, director of the refractive department of Wuhan University Aier Eye Hospital, reminded that winter vacation is the peak period for college students to remove their glasses, but not everyone is suitable for myopia surgery. Myopia surgery has certain requirements for age, degree, corneal condition, and myopia stability, and it also requires a detailed preoperative examination and evaluation to know whether the conditions for surgery are met and which myopia surgery is suitable.
