A 9-year-old girl's eyes hurt and she can't open them because she doesn't eat vegetables. How can we prevent keratitis?

China Science and Technology News Network, January 5 (Xu Qiqi) According to Hebei Great Wall Network, recently, a 9-year-old girl in Shenzhen, Guangdong, did not like to eat vegetables. A few months ago, her left eye hurt so much that she could not open it, and she also had symptoms such as red eyes and photophobia. After examination, she was diagnosed with fascicular keratitis, a type of bullous keratitis. The doctor said that the girl suffered from keratitis due to a lack of riboflavin (vitamin B2) in her body. Riboflavin cannot be synthesized by the human body and must be ingested through fresh vegetables.

Vitamin B2 is a type of B vitamin that participates in cell growth metabolism, biological oxidation and energy metabolism in the body. If the body lacks vitamin B2, it may cause inflammation of the mouth, eyes and external genitalia. A survey shows that children are more likely to lack vitamin B2 because of their rapid growth and vigorous metabolism. Many fruits and vegetables contain vitamin B2, such as apples, bananas, oranges, tomatoes, celery, cabbage, etc. In addition, animal liver and milk also contain vitamin B2.

Corneal infections such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and Acanthamoeba may cause keratitis. Autoimmune diseases or certain systemic diseases may also cause corneal lesions. Complications such as corneal ulcers, glaucoma, and blindness may occur with keratitis.

How to prevent keratitis?

First of all, you should pay attention to eye hygiene and try to wear contact lenses as little as possible. If you must wear contact lenses, you can choose daily disposable ones. Wear contact lenses when your hands are clean and dry.

Have a balanced diet, eat more foods rich in vitamins and calcium, and try not to be picky about food.

Use lamps with bright, soft light, and do not work or study in dim, glaring light.

Use your eyes moderately, and look into the distance for a while to relax your eyes after using them. Get enough sleep and reduce the number of times you stay up late to use your phone.

If you feel any discomfort in your eyes, go to the hospital for examination in time for early detection and treatment.
