Counterpoint: Wireless charging smartphone shipments to grow 14.2% year-on-year in 2024

Wireless charging smartphone shipments are expected to grow 14.2% year-over-year in 2024, while the share of wireless charging smartphones in the entire smartphone market is expected to exceed 31% in 2024 and is expected to reach nearly half of the market share in 2029. Wireless charging smartphones are becoming increasingly popular as the wireless charging function enhances user convenience and has become a key marketing strategy for smartphone OEMs, especially for flagship models.

The trend of integrating reverse wireless charging into smartphones is rising sharply, driven by consumer demand for multifunctional devices and manufacturers' innovations in flagship models. Reverse wireless charging's share of the wireless charging smartphone market is expected to grow from 95.6% in 2023 to nearly 100% in 2026. From 2023 to 2025, reverse wireless charging smartphone shipments are expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 18%.

Major OEMs are steadily adopting reverse wireless charging in their flagship models. Apple currently dominates the reverse wireless charging smartphone market as it supports reverse wireless charging on all iPhone 12 models and later. But Apple has not yet fully unleashed the potential of the reverse wireless charging feature as it is currently limited to charging MagSafe battery packs.

With the feature supported across the entire iPhone lineup, Apple is expected to leverage its dominant position and maintain modest but steady growth. Growing adoption by Samsung and Chinese OEMs such as Huawei and Xiaomi has spurred market expansion, gradually eroding Apple’s market share. Notably, Xiaomi and OPPO, two companies that have historically held smaller shares, have recently begun integrating the feature into their flagship models and are preparing to expand its application to the mid-range segment.
