CMR: India's tablet market to grow 79% QoQ in Q3 2024

According to a report by CyberMedia Research, the Indian tablet market will achieve a year-on-year growth rate of 46% and a month-on-month growth rate of 79% in the third quarter of 2024. This surge is mainly driven by the rapid popularity of 5G tablets and the wave of premiumization in the market.

"The tablet market is on a growth trend, driven by a surge in 5G tablet adoption and a noticeable premiumization trend during the festive season sales," said Menka Kumari, Analyst. "Value-conscious consumers in India are prioritizing voice-enabled tablets for work, study, and entertainment. Apple and Samsung are the clear winners in this regard. Also, recent market entrants, including Xiaomi and OnePlus, are gaining traction among value-conscious brands as their strategies are aligned with consumer expectations, and the future of the tablet market looks very promising."

Wi-Fi-only tablets maintained their 62% share in the third quarter of 2024, demonstrating their affordability and effectiveness for home users. 5G tablets showed significant growth, accounting for 19% of the market as users sought high-performance devices anytime, anywhere.

Apple leads in the third quarter of 2024, followed by Samsung

  • Apple led the Indian tablet market with a 34% market share and a strong year-on-year growth rate of 95%. The new iPad 10 series contributed 60% of Apple's shipments, consolidating Apple's strong momentum in the market.
  • Samsung ranked second with a 25% market share and 70% year-on-year growth. The brand's broad product portfolio covers both premium and value-for-money tablets, enabling it to appeal to a broad consumer base. The Galaxy A9 Plus 5G accounted for 52% of Samsung's total shipments.
  • Xiaomi achieved a year-on-year growth of 146% in the third quarter of 2024. Xiaomi, known for its value-for-money products, saw its growth driven primarily by the popular Redmi Pad (37%) and Redmi Pad SE WiFi (26%), which resonated well with the price-sensitive market in India.
  • Lenovo faced a challenging third quarter of 2024, with sales down 13%. Lenovo Tab M11 4G + Wi-Fi (28%) and Lenovo Tab Plus (16%) were the main contributors to its shipments, but were unable to offset the overall decline.
  • OnePlus continued to make great strides, achieving 97% year-over-year growth. The OnePlus Pad Go Wi-Fi series was particularly popular, accounting for 57% of OnePlus' shipments, highlighting the company's growing influence in the tablet market.
