Ericsson: June 2024 Mobility Report

Ericsson released the "Mobile Report June 2024". In 2029, the number of 5G mobile users will be close to 5.6 billion. In the first quarter of 2024, there will be 160 million new 5G users, and the total number will exceed 1.7 billion.

Smartphone market recovery in 2024

Chipsets with generative AI (GenAI) capabilities and mobile phones that can process AI without connecting to a server (on-device AI) are already entering the market. These devices are likely to shape new user behaviors and change the way applications and services are consumed in the future.

5G subscriptions are increasing in every region

5G penetration is high in North America, with the region expected to reach 59% 5G subscriber penetration by the end of 2023. India, meanwhile, has a 10% 5G penetration rate.

Both the United States and Canada have made impressive progress in deploying 5G across their countries.

Mobile network data traffic

Mobile network data traffic grew 25% from the first quarter of 2023 to the first quarter of 2024.

It is predicted that by 2029 , 5G will account for about 75% of mobile data traffic

One of the factors driving traffic growth is users' migration to next-generation mobile technologies.

The main connectivity offerings that service providers provide to consumers and enterprises are based on a best-effort performance model. High-performance programmable networks leveraging 5G standalone (SA) architectures offer new opportunities for service innovation and performance-based business models.

Leveraging 5G capabilities to offer innovative mobile service packages

Speed-based FWA is now offered by 40% of FWA service providers

The number of fixed wireless access (FWA) service providers offering speed-based tariff plans has risen to 40% from 27% a year ago.

5G medium-band population coverage reaches 35%

The mid-band population coverage outside of China has reached 35%. Rapid deployment has been carried out in North America and India, with mid-band coverage reaching 85% and 90% respectively.
