The latest report from research firm Omdia shows that MediaTek's 5G smartphone chip shipments have surpassed Qualcomm and taken the top spot. MediaTek's 5G chip shipments in the first quarter of 2024 were 53 million, a year-on-year increase of 52.7% compared to the first quarter of 2023 (34.7 million). In comparison, Qualcomm Snapdragon shipments this quarter were 48.3 million units, which remained stable compared to the first quarter of 2023 (47.2 million units) and increased by 2.3% year-on-year. MediaTek was able to overtake Snapdragon in the 5G smartphone market mainly because there are more and more phones priced below $250 equipped with 5G chipsets. It is worth mentioning that Huawei's Kirin series is also slowly improving (a complete counterattack). Without Qualcomm Snapdragon 5G processors, they have relied on themselves to stand up again in the 5G mobile phone market, and the hot sales of the Mate 60 series during this period contributed greatly to this. In addition, the shipment volume and market share of another domestic manufacturer, Spreadtrum, are also increasing, although the overall share is still too small. Zikuai Technology |
