Recently, the head of Twitter's consumer products department told employees on Tuesday that the company is preparing for its most ambitious quarter of user growth. Internal meetings showed that Twitter's goal is to add 13 million monetizable daily active users this quarter, that is, users who can see ads. The head of Twitter's consumer products department told employees that this is the highest goal the team has ever set. This goal exceeds Wall Street expectations. Analysts on average expect Twitter to add 9 million users this quarter. Twitter is on track to reach that goal, having already added 8.5 million users, one of its best quarters for user growth to date. In the second quarter of 2020, Twitter added 20 million users, its highest quarter-over-quarter growth since at least 2019, as people flocked to the platform for news at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. It also shows that Twitter remains committed to attracting new users even as its acquisition by billionaire Elon Musk faces uncertainty. Musk sent a letter to Twitter on Monday threatening to back out of the $44 billion deal unless the company provides more data to prove fake or spam accounts make up less than 5% of its users. |
