Sunny Side Up: 2022 Instagram Trend Report

1. Fashion and Beauty

Minimalist fashion reigns supreme After two years of athleisure, young people are boldly choosing their own style, using fashion as a vehicle for joy, optimism and self-expression.

2. Shopping

Modern people cannot live without online shopping, but in 2022 it is expected to move away from large online retailers’ websites. More than half of young people interested in new shopping experiences are interested in shopping on Instagram.

3. Music and Dance

Music is becoming visual:

More album releases will include a graphic component. Artists have used visual streams for several years, but the pandemic has helped these works become more mainstream. Instagram users (24%) are more likely to be excited about visual music experiences in 2022, and about a quarter of teens and young adults want to watch a live concert in 2022.

41% of 13-24 year olds say they are movie fans. 70% of teens expect to discover new music or artists through social media in 2022.

4. Celebrities and creators

Creators have risen to the level of A-list celebrities: 83% of respondents believe that creators have as much influence as online influencers.

5. Career and Education

Redefining the meaning of 9-to-5: 90% of Gen Z audiences believe that the best education comes from real-world experience. Given the cost of college, they are seriously considering alternative paths. 66% of respondents are beginning to devalue a college education.

6. Food

Young people continue to experiment in the kitchen by trying complex recipes and intricate cooking techniques.

7. Health

Mental health extends beyond the inner self. About 1/3 of people continue to participate in mental health activities such as guided meditation, manifestation exercises, etc.

8. Games

Games are the new shopping malls: Quarantine has fueled a boom in video games that isn’t slowing down anytime soon. More young people are spending more time playing games indoors, especially in places that double as social spaces.

9. Memes

As times become increasingly uncertain, young people rely on mediums they can grasp and control. Memes offer a moderate level of certainty and control More than 1 in 5 teens and young adults will pay more attention to astrology and stocks in 2021.

10. Social Justice

Young people frequently participate in social activism online. 52% of young people followed social justice accounts on social media in 2021, highlighting the importance of social media for sharing activist messages.
