Counterpoint: India's smartphone market shipments in Q1 2023 reached more than 31 million units, down 19% year-on-year

According to official news from Counterpoint Research, the latest research from Counterpoint's market monitoring service shows that India's smartphone shipments fell 19% year-on-year to more than 31 million units in the first quarter of 2023 (January to March), the largest drop in the first quarter in the history of the Indian smartphone market and the third consecutive quarter of decline.

The decline is due to sluggish market demand, high inventory backlog in 2022, consumers' growing preference for refurbished phones, and channel dealers' pessimistic attitude towards the market.

In addition, judging from the data of various brands, Samsung has a 20% share, leading the Indian smartphone market for the second consecutive quarter and ranking first among 5G brands. Vivo ranks second, and Xiaomi drops to third. OnePlus is the fastest growing brand, followed by Apple.

The report also stated that in the first quarter of 2023, India's 5G smartphone shipments accounted for 43% of total smartphone shipments, a record high .
