Counterpoint: iPhone 13 mini accounts for only 5% of all new iPhone sales

Apple has dominated iPhone sales in China since the iPhone 13 debuted, but unsurprisingly, even in this market, the mini has performed the worst. New data shared by Counterpoint shows that during 2021, the iPhone 13 surpassed the iPhone 13 Pro Max to become the best-selling model in China.

According to these data, more than 1 out of every 2 iPhones sold in China last year was an iPhone 13.

The iPhone 13 Pro ranked third on the list with 21%, while the iPhone 13 mini was the least appealing, capturing just 5% of all iPhone sales.

"The initial sales of the iPhone 13 series in China exceeded the sales of previous generations. With the launch of the iPhone 13, Apple took the number one position in sales in China and has maintained the number one position except for a brief period during Singles' Day," Counterpoint pointed out. "This success was also accompanied by the strong performance of the iPhone 12, which contributed to the growth of Apple's overall sales."

In addition to confirming that the iPhone 13 is a very successful product, these data also show that Apple was right to cancel the iPhone mini.

The upcoming iPhone 14 generation will no longer include a 5.4-inch form factor, and Apple will launch a larger iPhone 14 Pro – with a 6.7-inch display. The lineup will therefore include four different models, just like the current generation, but this time it will also include 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch devices.

The iPhone mini will be retired, and the smallest iPhone Apple offers will be the iPhone SE, which will be updated sometime this spring.

The iPhone 14 unveiling is expected to take place in September, as it happens every year.
