eMarketer: Global mobile messaging app users will exceed 1.4 billion in 2016

eMarketer predicts that by 2019, more than a quarter of the world's population will use mobile communication apps.

In 2016, the number of global mobile communication application users exceeded 1.4 billion, an annual growth rate of 16%.

Mobile phone users in the Asia-Pacific region are the most fond of using chat applications (805 million), accounting for more than 50% of the global mobile communication application users. The number of mobile communication application users in China accounts for more than half of the Asia-Pacific region.

India is the second largest mobile messaging app market and the fastest growing. In 2016, the number of Indian chat app users will increase to 133 million, an increase of more than 24.0%.

This year, the number of chat app users in Indonesia will exceed 52 million, an annual growth rate of 21.3%.

The strong growth of mobile messaging apps in India and Indonesia will continue until 2020, when the number of mobile messaging app users in India and Indonesia will reach 230 million and 86 million, respectively.
