Distimo: Downloads from official app stores in April 2014: Google Play is lower than APP Store

According to the latest published data, the global app market downloads increased by 1.5% in April. According to Apple’s previous financial report, their App Store revenue increased slightly, while Google’s Google Play store revenue declined slightly.

In March, Google Play accounted for 40% of the revenue generated by the App Store and Google Play, but this share dropped slightly to 39% in April, and Apple's share increased to 61% in April. Although the proportion is small, according to data from research firm Distimo, App Store revenue has increased by 27% in the past six months, while Google Play has increased by 38%.

In April, the most downloaded free app in the App Store was the puzzle game 2048, while in Google Play it was Facebook. As for paid apps, the most downloaded in both stores was Minecraft – Pocket Edition.

The top-grossing app on the App Store in April was Clash of Clans, followed by Candy Crush Saga. The top-grossing app on Google Play was also Clash of Clans, followed by Puzzle & Dragons.
