Statista: iPhone 5 is still the most popular mobile phone in 2013

There have been a lot of reports lately that Apple's iPhone has fallen out of favor and is no longer the most popular phone in the world. At first glance this is true, as Samsung has swung ahead of Apple and Android has won the OS platform war.

Upon closer inspection, Apple's position is not that bad. According to Strategy Analytics, in the first quarter of 2013, Apple took 57% of the profits in the global smartphone market, while many of its competitors (except Samsung) were still losing money.

Let's look at Google's data, the so-called user interest. According to Google Trends, Internet users are still most interested in iPhone 5. The only phone that can compete with iPhone 5 is Samsung's new flagship Galaxy S4, but even S4 only surpassed iPhone 5 when it was released and sold.
