eMarketer: Survey shows only 1/4 of US users are interested in using mobile wallets to shop in offline stores

iResearch, based on eMarketer survey data, found that despite the rapid growth of the mobile payment market, its acceptance among American consumers is relatively low. The data showed that only a quarter of American users surveyed were interested in using mobile wallets to shop in offline stores, while 58% of consumers were not interested in mobile wallet technology, including 41% who were not interested at all.

iResearch Consulting believes that there are still many obstacles to overcome for mobile payment to be widely accepted by American consumers. First, privacy and security are the main factors that consumers are concerned about. The use of mobile wallets will make users worry about the theft of their mobile phones or the leakage of privacy, and smart phone users are more concerned about this issue. Second, the popularization of mobile payment technology and the promotion of mobile payment technology to consumers are not strong enough. Most American consumers do not understand the advantages of mobile wallet payment methods, which are fast, convenient, safe and reliable. Overall, with the continuous increase in global mobile phone users, the mature penetration of 3G, and the popularization of smart terminals and mobile Internet, mobile phone payment still has huge room for development. However, in order to make mobile phones a widely accepted credit and debit card payment tool, it is necessary to further improve the security of mobile payment, highlight the advantages of mobile payment in terms of mobility and flexibility, and further accelerate market promotion and the cultivation of user usage habits.
