How to Say Goodbye to "Moon Face"

All beauty lovers yearn for smooth and flawless skin. Acne has almost become the natural enemy of beauty lovers. Some of our friends are severely affected. How was the "moon face" formed?

Acne pits are essentially a type of atrophic, sunken scars left after acne heals. They are caused by the lack of timely and appropriate treatment of acne, infection and inflammation, or external force, which aggravates the inflammatory response and leads to local necrosis and liquefaction of skin tissue, resulting in varying degrees of defects in the skin (epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue), and scars, which are commonly referred to as "acne pits", or what we call "moon face".

The dermis has a very weak ability to renew and repair. Once damaged, it is difficult to repair. Therefore, preventing the formation of acne pits is more important than repairing them. For those friends who are still suffering from acne, in order to avoid "digging pits" for themselves in the future, they should never squeeze pimples!

Are there different shapes of acne scars?

Acne scars are very good at "shaping". Acne depressed scars can be divided into three types: ice pick type, rolling (roller) type and boxcar type. Among them, ice pick type acne scars account for 65-70% of the total, rolling (roller) type acne scars account for 20-30%, and boxcar type acne scars account for 15-25%, but more often they appear as a mixed type.

1. Ice cone acne pits

It is deep and narrow, with a width of about 2 mm, sharp edges, and only leads to the deep dermis or subcutaneous layer. The opening is wide and gradually narrows downward to form an ice cone shape.

2. Rolling (roller) type acne pits

It reaches deep into the dermis, has a circular bottom and is more than 4-5mm wide. Due to the traction of the dermis or normal subcutaneous fibrous tissue, the surface opening is narrow, the base is wide, the bottom is shallow, and it has a wavy appearance.

3. Boxcar acne pits

It resembles a chickenpox scar, with sharp vertical edges pointing downward, a wider surface, a broad base, and may be shallow (0.1-0.5 mm) or deep (≥0.5 mm). In most cases, it is a deep box scar with a diameter of 1.5-4 mm. The deep box scar has poor efficacy due to its greater depth.

How to say goodbye to "moon face"?

Acne scars are stubborn and difficult to remove, and a single repair method cannot achieve satisfactory results. It is generally recommended in clinical practice to use a combination of methods.

1. Fractional laser

Fractional laser therapy is recognized as the first choice for treating depressed scars. It transmits laser light through the dermis in a fractional manner, causing tiny and uniform damage to the skin. This process activates the skin's "damage repair" mechanism, which can stimulate collagen regeneration at the lesion site and repair scar tissue.

2. Microneedle treatment

Through the physical stimulation of microneedles, thousands of tiny injuries deep into the dermis are directly formed on the skin to stimulate the production of collagen in the acne pits; at the same time, it can effectively penetrate and deliver drugs, repair damaged soft tissues, thicken the dermis, and improve acne pits. It has a better effect on roller-type and shallow boxcar scars.

3. Subcutaneous dissection

By inserting a sharp needle under the scar, the tightened subcutaneous fibers under the scar are cut off, the scar surface is isolated from the underlying fiber band, and the scar is raised, providing a good recovery environment for the new subcutaneous connective tissue. It is most effective for roller-type scars, while ice pick or boxcar scars need to be combined with other treatment methods.

4. Tissue filling

By repeatedly injecting sodium hyaluronate compound solution, the formation of fibrous tissue is stimulated, collagen production is induced, and the efficiency of collagen fiber synthesis is effectively improved. It is effective for severe rolling acne depressed scars.
