Semiocast: The 20 countries and regions with the most Twitter accounts

On the evening of July 31, 2012, the latest data from French research company Semiocast showed that the number of Twitter users has exceeded 500 million, but only 27% are active users.

Paul Guyot, founder of Semiocast, said that of the 500 million users, 27% are active users. In other words, Twitter only has about 170 million active users.

Semiocast data shows that Twitter has the highest active user rate in the Netherlands, at 33%. Japan ranks second, with an active user rate of 30%.

Gioto also stressed that the 500 million users do not include spam accounts. "Twitter often deletes spam accounts, and our data does not include these deleted accounts," Gioto said.
